Worst school ever! If I knew then what I know now I would not let my kids go there. This school does not provide superior education. My kids standardized test scores are exactly the same percentage they always were. My absolutely brilliant child gets straight As and amazing AP and SAT scores but she would have gotten them any way. What she has not gotten is personal growth or leadership opportunities. There is NOTHING outside of academics. Every extra curricular opportunity we seek from the community. There is no theatre, choir, clubs, etc worth anything.

Another of my kids opted to leave Basis for high school. There is NO comparison between the opportunities at Clark and Basis. Hands down Clark is the superior school.

I let my kids stay because they really did not want to change schools in their sophomore or junior year. I would strongly advise against sending your kids here. Basis doesn’t make them better, the numbers are good because only academically strong kids stay. Kids that have difficulty will not be supported. The support my child has gotten from Clark has been fantastic and has allowed her to grow in every area, academics, theatre, music, and socially.

Basis Inc is For Profit. Basis schools are required to pay for the curriculum. All clubs etc must pay to exist. The school requires any student organization to rent school space. They will not allow student counsel. The high school kids do not organize dances, or socials or anything. The “ask” every family to contribute 1500 a year per student to the a “teacher fund”. This find is supposed to reward the teachers however it does not. They say they are giving to teachers when they use this money to buy supplies for the classroom. They keep track of who contrbuted and how much. These contributions seem to influence how kids are treated, I.e. the more you contribute the more favorable for your kid. They charged for seating to a school award ceremony.

We love BASIS and their philosophy. It is exactly what education should be and public school has lost sight of. My son was not enjoying school in the public school system. He was not being challenged enough even after being included in the Gifted and Talented program. His grades had begun to slip and he was losing interest in learning. Since he enrolled in BASIS, this has changed dramatically. It is amazing to see his desire to learn and his drive to succeed in school return. I know it is due to the passion of the teachers and staff and the vision of BASIS that he has taken an interest in his own education and matured in just a few short months. My two younger sons are are eagerly awaiting the opening of BASIS Primary. We’re looking forward to them receiving the same opportunities my oldest has enjoyed.
The teachers are hired for their expertise in the subject they teach. They have a great passion for their subject which translates to the students, getting them interested and eager to learn. The school is still regulated but not to the point of regular public schools where the teachers are required to teach a certain curriculum a certain way. This allows them to use their teaching gifts the way that works best in their classroom with those particular students.
The only con is the smaller choice in extracurriculars. (Similar to most private and charter schools.) The students get to decide which programs will be offered but it is a small school so this limits what can be offered. They don’t get as much funding as public schools so there is usually a small fee for the clubs. Much cheaper than paying for a private school, though! (i.e. the school itself is free.)
If you’re looking for a more stimulating education and you child has a desire to learn, this is the school for you.
