BEWARE! One of the worst schools for special education in Michigan, we thought it was the last hope but it turned out to be hell. when I would go to beacon they would have a step program that was based on behavior that had privileges tied to each step. They do this as young as elementary maybe younger, and there was always step favoritism from teachers and even students. Step four kids even had their own table to sit at. While the rest of us got to sit and watch. Step ones barely had any privileges which would usually cause them to act out more and more, it didn’t help the teachers like Afaf or Stephanie or Kate or Jill would purposely be antagonistic towards these kids to get a reaction so they can call the center and send them there. Another punishment is the center, a place with walled stalls where they send or drag kids out of the classroom. These center staff would grab your arms and legs and drag you out of your seat if you didn’t get up yourself whether you were being disruptive or not, they will put you in a tiny walled off part of the center and put you into a cross-arm chokehold which is illegal. And would even sit on you if you tried to get away. The only way to escape Beacon day treatment is to get to step 5. Then they allow you to possibly try half day at a normal school. I and many kids now adults have trauma from this school, the teachers, and what the center staff did to me in there. Please if you love your children pick a different school. Pictured is one of the center staff that they hire to sit on your small children.
This is a awful school and i really wish more parents would post reviews
This school causes more trauma fir my son they lie on kids and i have proof on paper i would of grounded my son but then i asked to watch the vedio in the center after my son told me the staff pushed him. And what they wrote on paper never happen it makes me sick and his social worker tells me we treat all the kids the same but they all have. A iep so thats not ok they lie in meetings and i am trying to get my son into another school he he got put there in kdg cause he was a runner and allen park didnt want to deal with him he is now in 4th garde and he dont get sent to the center he just sita down there cause he hates that school and they dont have to do work in the center so he isnt learning anything there and his home school special ed director is like he should go back there next year cause i pulled him out of school the last month so with out them changing his iep im basically forced to send my son to school there or no other school will take him and in the meeting we had hes not aggressive no problem in class they say he will do fine in regular school so why am i being forced to send him to a school where there is too much trauma and its like JAIL!!!!!!
The staff is not equipped to deal with children that suffer from mental illness. My family has been very attentive and involved with my child care, with every incident there was a follow-up with an intervention from the family. When my child first attended this unprofessional school there were certain staff that cared, and showed interest in my child well being, growth, and future, the staff that’s there NOW…..BEWARE PLEASE CONSIDER OTHER ALTERNATIVES TO TREATMENT FOR YOUR CHILD MENTAL CARE, MOST OF THE STAFF NEED RETRAINING, OR TO SEEK OTHER ALTERNATIVES OF EMPLOYMENT.
