We like that this school starts at 9am (instead of 8am) and is close to our house. That said, the teachers have been a mix. The principal who just retired handled a situation where my kid was assaulted really badly, we hope the new one is better.

In previous years we had to look at a printout on the side of the school to see what class the kid is in – this year I requested that they email families instead, fingers crossed.

At this Berkeley Elementary School across the street from where I live they have been busy this summer covering much of the playground with patches of new grass and I don’t mean the artificial stuff. Every evening the water flows down the gutters outside the school on its way to the SF Bay as they lavish water their new turf.

This is deplorable — what lesson are they teaching the kids who go to this school?
