I’m picking up pieces still after my daughter was bullied at this school and the school and other families response to the situation, which the bullies in question admitted to.and which had been a pattern in the class she was in but a pattern that was not mentioned when we enrolled her, proved inconsistent and inadequate. I knew she was not going to get a standard education but now as she turns to a more mainstream school I am seeing she is unprepared academically and seems traumatized around school work. She went from a kid excited about school to one who felt disinclined to attend and unsafe when she was there. She lost faith in the adults around her to keep things safe and sane and grounded. BRw is full of big ideas and high hopes but, apparently, not prepared to respond to life in motion.
I feel so lucky to have had 2 children attend this school through the 8th grade. Every minute of the school day, every day, is planned by the teachers with clear intention to meet the students needs – mind, spirit and body. There is never a dull moment, and yet the classrooms and hallways are filled with calm engagement and reverence for the task at hand. Both of my kids graduated prepared and excited for future learning.
