Blue Gum Community School is a rare beauty. Several leading cultures in the school strike me: the engendering of exploration rather than rote learning,; the culture of strength based discussions changing the status quo of communications; the personal confidence of the children and the nurturing of personal resilience.
With quite a bit of societal disconnection from Nature, it warms my heart and gives me hope for the future that the Blue Gum children stop to pick up leaves to wonder on their beauty, know how to navigate their way in the bush, spend time in canoes in streams in the wilderness, know how to prepare food when out in the bush – never mind standing at the top of a place they have climbed and feeling really good about themselves that they persevered and made it to the top!
And one last thing, the exploration experiences each year that come from class discussions and build into communal projects emulate healthy community building which are worth their weight in gold.
Thank you Blue Gum, five stars.
Blue gum claims a lot but in practise it does very little to help children with learning gaps. A very rigid and narrow minded school
I have gone here for nine years and have loved every bit of it. Learning is more hands on, and far more independent than any other school. No uniforms!!!!
It’s pretty good especially for younger kids (I go there and I’m in Highschool)
A beautiful community school where our children are thriving!
