Let me first start out by saying that I attended this school 7th-9th grade. I moved back into the area with my family and thought that it would be a good experience for my son. I enjoyed my days at BVJ and made life long friends. From the first day of registration we have experienced problems but I chalked it up as first day back to school glitches. The secretarial staff has no idea what they are doing. They dont take the time to listen and comprehend what is in front of them before they are trying to pass you off to someone else. They carry conversation in spanish amongst themselves when there are non-spanish speaking ppl present. They will continue their convesations until they are done even if you are standing at the desk trying to obtain info regarding your student. The counseling staff is for the birds. Mr Taeatafa is the most unprofessional person I have met. At our first mtg he decided that he needed to speak to me in a certain manner based on the color of my skin. Needless to say he is no longer my son’s guidance counselor. I have had to have my son transfered out of several classes due to teaching inadequacies. Please keep in mind that these are the same teachers that are striking infront of the school asking for parent support. Seems like to me that extra time that you had to stand out in front of the school to request your demands could have been spent updating Jupiter grades. Which brings me to a whole other topic of jupiter grades, i dont understand the purpose of having this system in place and urging the parents to use it to check on their students work if it is not updated on a regular basis! I dont know how many times I have been told by teachers that they dont have time for Jupiter grades but they want me to hold my son accountable for not doing his work but I cant hold you accountable for not doing yours! It is ridiculous that I cant even get an email, phone call hell even a text msg to let me know what is going on with my student. If this is what the school system has become are future is seriously screwed! These teacher that I have encountered at this school dont seem to care about the students or their success. Performance reflects leadership!!
I have to say this school has great teachers and great academic programs. My 7th grade year went great now that’s it my 8th grade year it good but I school is going down hill fast. First I want to start off with the office secretary she is extremely rude once my mother called for a question about an even they were having and she immediately hung up. I have even seen the looking on SHOPPING WEBSITES INSTEAD OF DOING THEIR WORK. Another thing this school has to improve on is their MUSIC PROGRAM the teacher is amazing and has been giving great classes throughout many years but now THE BAND INSTRUMENTS ARE FALLING APART AND THE SCHOOL DOESNT WISH TO PROVIDE FUNDS TOWARDS THEM. This school also has to improve on school security ABOUT 4 FIGHTS A WEEK HAPPENS NOT KIDDING ONE EVEN LEAD TO A GIRL BLEEDING WITH A NOSEBROKEN. THE NURSE DOESNT EVEN UNDERSTAND THE STUDENT WHEN THEY ARE SICK AND TELLS THEM TO GO BACK TO CLASS. THE COUNCILORS IGNORE STUDENTS AND SO ON. Take these things into consideration before taking your child to this school.
Worst school ever. I am a teacher in CVESD and I have never seen so much busy work in my life. Too much homework and not a very good environment for young people. Very chaotic. Pulled my son out after 2 quarters of nonsense, failing grades and horrible behaviors of students. Went from failing to high honor roll in new school. I am fortunate to be able to afford private education, not everyone can. I thought east side schools would be higher quality. If he goes back to public for high school it will actually be Castle Park. Much better reviews and smaller. They never once followed his 504 plan to modify his work even though we had meetings and meetings. Not one teacher answered my email concerns regarding grades. How can a 7th grader have 35 missing assignments in one class and have a disability and no one follows his plan? Parents look for another school. You will be glad you did.
