THE MUSIC PROGRAM AND TEACHER IS AMAZING!!!!!!! GO MR. MAC!!!! Also, the school makes delicious cookies for lunch. And a lot of the teachers (like Mr. Mac the band teacher) are really fun and awesome! The school is pretty old, but you get used to it after a while. Also, most of the people are all pretty nice, and the students there are really diverse. But other than that the school is okaaaaaaay…..
To anyone who is going to come to Bowditch: You’re probably gonna hate it at first. When I first came here I quickly went into a state of depression. Kinda. Anyways, if you find yourself in that situation, allow yourself to hate it. But you will soon get used to it and it won’t be THAT bad. However, you will continue to experience things at Bowditch that will probably make you want to run out of this school and away forever. That’s normal. Be sure to watch out for lots of beautifications (picking up trash at lunch)! I think one of the most awesome parts of Bowditch is its music program. You get to perform at Great America in seventh and eighth grade! also, School Loop is another good thing about it. It’s very helpful. The PE program isn’t the best, and the worst part is PE uniforms. But you get used to it after a while. (I, personally, still hate it!) Another really cool thing about Bowditch is Reading Exchange. If you pass a test in Reading, you don’t have to take reading anymore and can choose another elective in seventh and eighth grade! If you join the annual play at Bowditch, get ready to be rehearsing from 3:00 to 9:00 at night every school day and sometimes on the weekends if you are a character or part of Stage Crew! For lunchtime, I would recommend using the two lunch lines farthest to the right. those are usually faster, although sometimes other lines can also be faster. Make sure to try their cookies! (If they don’t run out before you get to the lunch counter.) Bowditch is an “outside school,” which means the school’s hallways are actually outside, so the hallways don’t have a roof. Don’t worry though, the classrooms are inside. The classrooms are in pods, little individual buildings, and each pod has a few classrooms each. Some classrooms are little individual buildings all by themselves. The lunchroom, also called the courtyard, is also outside. There are some drapes covering some lunch tables, so you will have shade if you sit there. At Bowditch, every Wednesday is a minimum day. On all other days, dismissal is at 3:00, but on Wednesdays, dismissal is at 1:25. Now, a little bit about Foster City. If you ride the bus after school, then my suggestion is to go to the library after school. In the Foster City library, it is common to see many people from Bowditch. The library has everything you need there to do your homework other than the basic pencils and others, and of course your homework. They have computers that aren’t too old and still work pretty well. Around the library, there is the recreation center, the teen center, a shopping plaza with Tpumps (Go to Tpumps! It’s reeeeeally good!), another shopping plaza including Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Pieology (a pizza place) and Noah’s Bagels, and a cafe and bakery. All these places can be walked to in minutes from the library, and if you have free time, I suggest you go to one of these places and grab a drink or snack, and maybe bring some friends too, it makes it so much more fun and makes the purpose of going way more than to just get delicious drinks and snacks, but to socialize and connect, as well as have fun. So these are my things to tell you about Bowditch. I might add some things I missed later on, but for now, I hope my summary helps you when you go to Bowditch.
First off, the teachers. Now, if you want to find ratings on individual teachers, ratemyteacher is an excellent tool from first-hand sources. But as a whole, the teachers there are…eh. Underwhelming.
Second, the curriculum. I don’t know exactly how much it has declined since I was there, but it wasn’t the greatest in my experience. Bowditch offers a nice music and drama program I guess, but extracurricular activities outside of those…eh. Plus Common Core is unfavorable, to say the least. PE is pretty bad, but that’s to be expected, so there’s not much to be said.
Third, the students. Uh, yeah. Rowdy kids. Annoying. Peers. Ugh.
There are a lot of other minor things that really pushes ones buttons at their time at Bowditch (seagulls, oh god the seagulls, and what are the fences? seriously?), and they all collectively make up a “meh” middle school experience. Honestly, Bowditch staff is the real MVP. Shoutouts to mah boiz who could clean up after all the trash at this school. And I don’t mean just wrappers and waste. Hats off to you, Janitors. Considering that Bowditch is the only middle school in Foster City you’d expect a better school considering the socioeconomic standard in this area
