My son has been here since February 2019.
First… To everyone saying teachers are mean… They are not meant to be a kids best friend. They are meant to teach and guide and that sometimes means with a more firm approach. Everyone I’ve interacted with has been awesome! Sure there may be certain policies you don’t understand or like… But as parents we must work with everyone to help our children grow and learn properly. My child came from the public school system–where the teachers yelled at the students constantly, called students stupid to their faces, faculty NEVER addressed by the bullying my son experienced which resulted in there casts, a few concussions, and plenty of other things I can’t mention–which was a NIGHTMARE. Since he’s been at Brighten, he’s he’s had friends, he does good in school, doesn’t complain, is over all much much happier. I wish I could’ve gotten him in here sooner as it would’ve done so much more for him!!!!! 10 ?? in my book!!!!!

Joke of a school. The lottery system is definitely crooked and angled towards accepting who they want to be apart of their school. As a whole education options in Douglas County are subpar. You would think that the charter school would be a refreshing alternative but its not. Most of the administration is rude and lacks personal skills. Trying to get a response or call back is almost impossible unless you message/summon the right people. And then all they do at that point is kick it down to one of their minions to basically regurgitate school policy on whatever the issue might be. Overall if your child is relatively advanced/gifted this really is not the place for them.
It’s not exactly what you expect. Some staff is friendly others seem to not interact as much with you. Some teachers are friendly and others just are not. Not very understanding when financial issues are a problem. Some act like their are favorites at the school and I’ve heard it from several parents as well. However with the public schools in the county they do have class size going for them. I do like the fact that a simple uniform is expected. I think that does take away the worry for most kids and parents on school attire. Nothing bad to say but just in the fence about certain issues and some teachers
