British Swim School was a breath of fresh air. All of the British Swim School instructors are fantastic with the children – mine are older now but I have witnessed plenty of toddler lessons with instructors calming scared (and sometimes screaming) children with seemingly limitless patience. The instruction is targeted and personalized to each child with a focus on drowning prevention (from the youngest age) and then stroke proficiency as they progress. They use proper pools with plenty of space for swimming as the children progress, and several locations to cater for a wider geographical area. My kids now swim at the Esplanade Fitness Center facility (behind the DoubleTree Hotel in Downers Grove) which is a lovely pool and they have allocated space within the ladies’ locker room for BSS swimmers to change. The men’s locker room is available for changing as well, of course. If you prefer not to use the locker rooms there is always the option of the poolside tent.
I have never regretted moving to British Swim School for my children’s swim lessons and highly recommend them.
Unfortunately they didn’t have any classes that worked this summer so we decided to give British swim school a go. From their site you could never tell how unprofessional this business actually is. First off, it’s in a random rec center in a double tree building. So there were old men (some with their shorts half down!) which is highly inappropriate for a toddler swim class. Second, The host who checked us in was completely clueless and unwelcoming. They don’t even have an appropriate change area/room, just a make shift one on the side of the pool. The lane was entirely too small and not kid friendly. This entire class was a total nightmare. If I could give zero stars I would. Please take your business to Goldfish or Paddle Bear and avoid this mess of a “swim school.”
