Brookwood High School has provided me the best education, discipline, and social skills it possibly can. I am a junior at Brookwood with a 4.0 GPA, and I participate in varsity wrestling, Student Government Association, and the Science Olympiad team. This school has been on top of its academics with a motto of “establishing a tradition of excellence.” It ranks one of the top in the county behind GSMST (a nationally ranked school which requires a lottery as an application). Most teachers do the most they can to help you throughout school and also life. These teachers provide the top education. Not to mention, one of the Physics teachers at Brookwood has worked for Ferrari, NASCAR, and NASA. Although some of the staff can be extremely strict on rules such as tardieness (also known as taps), it offers a plethora of extracurricular activities and clubs. Ranging from football and wrestling to science olympiad and our math team. In fact, our science olympiad team has one the state title for the last seven out of eight years. To add another bonus, the school is a 6A school in sports (soon to be 7A) which places or qualifies for state in a large variety of sports even though much of the money goes toward football. Every year, the football association fluctuates in how well it does. The soccer and track team has placed in state for many years in a row now. And even the wrestling team has been one of the top in the regions and the state. To add another bonus, Brookwood has a wide selection of clubs. One might think that these clubs are just like FBLA, DECA, Ecos Club, but we also have a Quidditch team for those Harry Potter enthusiasts. Thank you for your consideration towards Brookwood and I hope you find the right high school.
I was in for a rude awakening when I reentered this school system (I had been gone for a year and a half). It seems that absence makes the heart grow fonder, because I never remembered the razor edge of a late policy or the staff with god complexes. If you are mere seconds late, you have to file a tardy pass and it doesn’t matter HOW late you were, because it all counts the same. If you have the displeasure of being late to class, I suggest not going at all until the last 5 minutes and using the difference for some well deserved free time. Some of the teachers here, and every single employee with hall monitor duty, has some sort of NEED to reprimand any kid for the slightest infringement on any policy. I once stood up from a table to start walking to class and got reprimanded for not being seated in the time before first period. In the time it took me to stand up (but before I had the chance to start moving, mind you) a monitor swooped in to yell at me for not being at a table or heading to class. I won’t even get started on the division of teachers and the gifted level they teach. Let’s just say that the CP kids need just as good teachers as the AP and Gifted kids (and I’m saying that as someone in the more advanced classes). The state test scores may look good, but be warned, they put you through hell and back to get there. But don’t get me wrong, all the preppy white kids (myself included) with mommy and daddy’s financial support add a real air of racial and class acceptance.
