I am beyond disgusted at both the Burlington school district and Burlington Police Department’s decision to subject children to a mock shooting as part of a forensics lesson. How did this get approved by anyone? It’s simply insane. Children across America are well aware of the fact that just going to school could mean a death sentence for them. I am a former pre-K teacher who taught in South Burlington and will never forget the look on my 2 and 3-year-old students’ faces when we had to do lockdown drills. To voluntarily subject children to a mock shooting in the name of teaching “witness fallibility” is egregious and unforgivable. I will never forget this, and neither will those students. Embarrassing.
This was my first time back in over 30 years! Back then, I went there because I applied to be a substitute teacher. Had to go to each school district to apply via paper application. PCs existed and the internet was fledgling. Good times! Was hired, by the way. Do I have great stories!!

Shout out to Denise! She was about to head out the door, saw me and helped me. Really appreciate it!
