Great school with plenty of ventilation you’ll get black snot no matter were you weld part of the job they tell you several times your first 2 weeks how to stand to not breathe the smoke Instructors are very knowledgeable and all you have to do is walk up to them and ask a question they will both give you the answer and show you how to do the process several times i Had the same conversation. “Hey instructor I can’t figure this out” “Let me watch you weld Oh, here’s what you’re doing wrong” and then they’d show me how to fix it. Another time I had a headache and carlos the instructor asked some questions figured out it was arc flash and got me a plate to make my helmet dimmer headache gone. During my time at the school I watched them make some incredibly stupid people into knowledgeable and skilled welders if you’re smart and willing to admit you don’t know something then ask they will make you a great welder.
As others have already mentioned they could not care less about your health/safety. Ive never seen a school this smokey, with all the money they make off students youd think they would invest in some extractors or fans or anything?! Every week I had BLACK phlegm and snot coming out for DAYS after class. I was complaining that it felt like i had sand in my eyes/burning type feeling they said its probably nothing/acted like they didnt know…after weeks of it not subsiding i googled it turns out i was burning my cornea. So they really dont know what welders flash/arc eye is? Old/jerry rigged equipment and 1-2 instructors for dozens of students. I was lucky if an instructor checked in on me once throughout the whole day. I feel bad for the students that are just toughing it out/dont know better…NOTHING is worth sacrificing your health find a proper school!
AWESOME school. I took the MIG/TIG specialty course and I can’t tell you how much I learned in the 2.5 months I was there. Adam, Dave, Maria, and Robert are great people! If you’re looking for a great school, then look no further! Cal Trade is the school for you.
