Our family originally attended another school when we first moved here. We had awful experiences there. We did some research and decided to give Calibre a try.
Calibre was completely different from the other school. Everyone we encountered was smiling and happy. It was just such a huge difference. We could immediately feel that Calibre was a much more positive place.
There have been a few issues that I have addressed with the principle, and I felt that my concerns were taken seriously and addressed. They foster good communication between the school and the parents.
There are several extracurricular activities offered at a reasonable price to participate. Pre Covid, my child enjoyed after school band and guitar orchestra. They are adding more options this fall. Calibre hosts student concerts, carnival type festivals, 8th grade graduation trips, and a cultural feast.
The school is clean and orderly. It isn’t brand new, but it is kept in good repair.
Students wear uniforms, however, they are still able to wear jeans and shoes of their choosing.
When schools suddenly shut down for Covid, Calibre had an action plan that quickly had our kids distance learning. Other area schools took 3-4 weeks to implement online learning. The first few weeks of learning weren’t completely ideal, but a great effort was made to keep the kids on track. When school resumed in the fall, distance learning for my 6th grader was like a well oiled machine. We appreciate the time and energy that the teachers put into making it work and making that an option.
Pick up and drop off are a bit of a zoo, but that’s how it goes for most schools.
Like most other schools, you’ll have teachers who you adore, and teachers you don’t. We’ve been lucky in that there’s only been a few teachers here that weren’t a positive fit for our kids. As a whole, I think they have a great group of teachers.
I have always been treated kindly and professionally in all of my dealings with administration and office staff.
Above all, my kids are happy and excelling at Calibre – and that’s what matters most to us.
When my son was entering Kinder I had concerns about our local school district so I opted to explore charters. I found Calibre, enrolled and he’s now entering 8th grade with siblings entering 5th and 1st. Despite the challenges that Arizona faced as a whole and the pandemic I have found Calibre to be a welcoming school where the staff take an active interest in my children’s academic progress and overall well being. When my children enter school
I do not feel as though I have sent them off to be looked after by strangers, I feel a sense of safety knowing that I send them somewhere teachers and staff look after them and educate them as if they were their own children. It gives me great peace of mind. My youngest child has a host of medical issues and honestly Calibre staff have made me feel so much more at ease with the decision to send her in person. I know she will be well cared for and get a top notch public education at the same time. My middle child struggled with reading and the RTI staff did a wonderful job of not only aiding him in his reading progress but also making a personal connection so that he feels comfortable with them and for a kid who can be a bit awkward, that’s been a beautiful thing to see. The middle school teachers do a wonderful job of encouraging the students at that level while also not coddling them so they learn to be accountable which helps prepare them for high-school. I’m happy that we chose Calibre and would highly recommend them.
