My son been attending Campo Verde for 2 years now. My son is not a star student but is generally a smart young man. I am also a educator and teach in the professional world. I am normally one to take the side of the school and the teachers as kids will be kids. But last year we dealt with a Spanish teacher that would belittle the kids and call then stupid in class. Her teaching style was sarcastic to a point that it created a negative learning environment. After seeing a video and audio of the teacher in class we immediately approached the vice principle and after talking with the Spanish teacher we removed him from that class after it was evident she blamed everything on the students for her actions.

This year we dealt with a Science teacher that did not teach the student equally, in my opinion. My son had a hard time understanding the objectives of the class and I continued to encourage him that every year you will have at least one teacher that is difficult and can sometime teach above your level of understanding. I told him to work hard and do the work that is required and just get through he class. I even tried helping with his class work book which is worth a majority of his grade. (600 points each quarter). He was getting very low scores and he was very frustrated as he did work very hard on this knowing it was a large portion of the grade. I sat down with him and the rubic that showed what was required and I seen he had most everything there required of the rubic. He did have a few missing items here and there, but not to the point that would justify the scores he was receiving. Late in the year he was paired up with a student on a project. They came over and to work on the project and I asked about the grade of his partner. His partner was an A student in the class and was receiving high scores on the work book. I asked to look through the work book and, other than neatness in writing, my sons workbook had the same information except for a few missing items here and there. I discussed this directly with the science teacher and she said she would look into it as the student teacher did all the grading on the work books. There was never a follow up to explain the poor scores or there was no grade adjustment made, so I have no idea if he was doing the work correctly or an explanation of the low score.

Finally the last 2 years many of his classes he would turn in items late because he was sick and missed some school. (Admittedly this yeasr was a bad year for his sinus infections.) He would then turn in assignments that where never graded and marked as missing so this effected his grade in a few classes. I did tell him to take pictures/screen shots of when he turn in the assignment and unfortunately he did not do this so he had no proof that if was turned in. But this is a ongoing problem as the teachers are understaffed and have more students than they can handle and do the job properly.

I graduated and student taught here. I may be a bit biased, but as a student and teacher, I can say this is one of the best schools. The teachers actually care about the learning process and the students are so kind and helpful. It’s a great community to be a part of and if they had an opening for me this upcoming year, I’d be there in a second. I’ve seen this school flourish as a freshman in 2009 to a senior in college in 2017. Once a coyote, always a coyote.
This school lacks the funding and good attitude for students that have mental difficulties. Kids bully the special students and faculty does nothing about it. Very sad. Don’t let your kids with learning disabilities attend here.
