The Ultimate Cedar Lane Review:

Short Review: This is a special needs school. It has mostly caring staff, and some things meant to help you, like low homework amounts. But it lacks a ton of the great things that I would expect to be at a high school. After school clubs are an example. They also don’t have a decent account of electives. No drama or school plays for instance. I personally don’t recommend it.

What You Need To Know About Cedar Lane.

This school has about 100 students from what I know, which isn’t that much. Since there isn’t a high amount of students, there also isn’t that much staff. So there isn’t nearly as many classes here as there is at the school I would be at if I didn’t have special needs (Chantilly High). It does have a rather high student to staff ratio however (Around 3:1).

Due to serving students from a lot of different places in the county, some students live very far away. Due to that, after school is hard for the school. There is 1 program after school program about programming that will start in a few weeks, but other than that, this school hasn’t had after school in a long time.

This year, they started a ridiculous cell phone rule. Every class, you have to lock them in a teacher’s cabinet. This applies to everyone, even the kids who never use it in class anyway. If you don’t follow this policy, you don’t get the points you need to get to do a lot of the fun things we do occasionally. Some of those things are movies, and a special lunch that’s a lot better than the somewhat decent lunch than the normal cafeteria lunch.

Now let’s talk more about the normal lunch. They have 8 options usually, your non special needs school should have much more options. It also isn’t made here at cedar Lane, it’s shipped here from somewhere else and reheated. Most people say the lunch here is OK at best.

They have a level system here. If you get less than a certain amount of referrals, you upgrade levels. There is 5 levels. You can see the awards in the picture. You may like a lot of those things. I like a lot of the things myself, but they aren’t worthwhile enough for me to love the school. You may not have the same thoughts I do.

The staff here is mostly great in my experience. The counselors are pretty good at seeing the people who need them. The staff mostly cares and want you to succeed. You can even have lunch in teachers rooms if you are level 2 or higher in the level system I mentioned earlier.

With the exception of one teacher, the computers here are slow and old. Same with the news show equipment. They actual news show content is decent however.

This school is OK in my opinion. I just don’t recommend it when comparing to my normal school, Chantilly High. You may love it however, this is my opinion.

This place saved me. I was headed down a path of self destruction back when I was a freshman and sophomore (2000) and if it weren’t for Cedar Lane, I am pretty sure my life would not be where it is today. The staff is caring, encouraging, and accommodating. Class sizes are small and incredible attention is paid to each student. They encourage students to explore themselves, whether through art, music, or something else. Of course not all moments were perfect, after all, high school is a trying time (especially with an emotional disability) but I always felt I could depend on any member of the staff to help. Thank you for allowing me to obtain my full potential!
i went here staff is good but the kids push ppl in to using drugs and its a bad place .. you feel like your in a crazy place .. there at least 6 fights a day
