If you are hispanic or black do not enroll your child here. They will be targeted. I moved my daughter to Century her 8th grade year an I have regretted it from day one. The constant home work that the teacher losses is ridiculous not to mention the online submitting that has a glitch. They mark it as missing then I get on my daughter for not turning it in just to find out they later find it. This has happened several times. Terrible grading system makes no sense what’s so ever. The teachers are just plain weirdos an actually yell at the top of their lungs at the students quit frequently. I called a teacher out on it an she apolizged to me an my daughter. I told her if she did it again I would hold her accountable. The kids stay in the same classes all year becaue of the grading system which we were unaware of. So pick the classes carefully. Mr. Riley the assistant principal is just plain psychotic he is a gym rat turned teacher who has serious anger an aggression issues an has no business dealing with kids. He is a bully an harasses the kids. He pin points students an him an Mr Holbrook rule the school with an iron fist. They treat it like a prison compound. And some teachers talk bad about them to the students. They have no place in the school system. There have been several strange occurrences here that i have never experienced as a parent like a substitute teacher touching girls inappropriately, then a stranger lurking around the school so we were notified, they have drug dogs brought in several times a month, the parking to pickup your kid up is just weird an they have a really terrible system that makes you go thru an entire neighbor hood just to exit because of the one ways this does not work effectively. It’s the middle of the year an I don’t want to switch my daughter now so we have to tough it out. This has been a learning lesson for us. The school system needs to change an its sad to see what they have become.
If Century would have had a better pick in principles, then I would give this school 4.5 stars. I give this school 1 star because I have a very close friend who goes to this school, and he is one of the smartest and most clever people I know. Sure he can be a knucklehead sometimes, but everyone loves this kid, and he even makes the teachers laugh. One day, this close friend of mine was called down to the assistant principles office, and Mr. Riley is the assistant principle currently (unfortunately he has a job.) Right as my friend sat down, Mr. Riley called him stupid. He interrogated him, and was incredibly rude. Mr. Riley then accused this child of sexually harassing someone. My friends mom then got involved, and after lots and lots of talking, he still didn’t even say the words “I’m sorry.” I guess he missed that day in pre-school. I know he didn’t apologize because my friend recorded the conversion. Now, for the principle Mr. Holbrook, who I also have absolutely no respect for, gave me two whole weeks of detention because I flipped a water bottle. Apparently thats vandalism. The teachers and counselors are great, (with only a few exceptions) it’s only the principles that bring down this school. Also there are fights that occur every day. I’m not even sure they are setting us up to retire at 60. I could go on for a few more paragraphs, but I’ll go easy. Is this really the environment that you want your child in?
I am an eighth grader at this school, and at first when I walked in, I could tell that this place is poorly contained. It always smells and you can find unknown goo and stuff like that in the bathrooms. The tap water has a weird color and tastes disgusting. The heater didn’t work until a few months ago when they finally fixed it. Moving along from the obvious hygene problems with the school, some of the staff members there are pretty terrible as well. The principles like to treat us like cattle. They always lecture us (by screaming) about respect to your teachers and other students, yet I have never seen them treat anyone except eachother with actual respect. But surprisingly, I did see our head principle smile once. It was when his boss, (one of the superintendents) came to tour the school. Some of the teachers are nice, and some are not. But that would be common in most schools. But before I end, I want to talk about something else that is really a big problem. I see bullying in this school almost everyday. You would think that the teachers would stop it if they saw it. But that never happens. Kids run around the halls screaming and cursing all of the time and most teachers stand there and don’t care. Treat someone like a dog and they will act like a dog. I give this school one star and I advise anyone moving into this school to try and reconsider and find a school with better principles and a better budget.
