Challenger School – Summerlin, Las Vegas | Fees, Rankings, Address, Admission, Vacancies, Reviews & More

As someone that went to this school during part of their elementary years back in the 2000s. I’ll give a quick list of the Pros and Cons:

— Pros —
(1.) Better quality education (at least when compared on a local level.)
(2.) Teachers know their s* and more. Staff (at least at the time) were known for having unique reputations and the career experience resulting in heavy motivational work ethic, higher-level knowledge, and teaching creativity. Very latter being the most important.
(3.) This school (or at least this particular campus) promotes their students to learn (quite deeply) professionalism, common-courtesy, and the tools of gaining a successful foothold in the workforce. Which usually results in a better/stable quality of life than our current public school curriculum which more so (for the most part) results in a working class financial status or lower-middle class at the best.

— Cons —
(1.) This school does not promote and (to a degree) punishes students that may naturally have and a core personality trait called Individualism. This school instead encourages a sense of obedient formality with unreasonable restrictions and depending on your child’s personality may actually end up hurting them on a psychological level. Because the behavior to pursue one’s own sense of self and identity is a natural human instinct that this school insists on suppressing for who knows why.
(2.) This school does not care much regarding physical recreational time for your child. The “Physical Education” we received was stupidly sub-par. Children are hyper little animal humans and need to regulate and express this type of hyper activity via physical activities such as running, playing tag, sports, whatever. We never really got that during my time as a student. I truly hope current or former administration has taken some action on improving their PE program which to this day I recall as being of fairly adverse status.
(3.) If your child has some sort of mental illness that affects their ability to learn and/or behave civilly. This school is *NOT* for them. They are many schools in the Valley that can cater to children that fall into this category. Schools that have the staff with good training on teaching more specific curriculums that will give your child a true road to success. Enrolling them here and thinking they will become successful individuals and contributors in our community is futile, as sad as it is.

My daughter went to Challenger for preschool, pre k and the beginning of kindergarten. She also attended summer school for both pre school and pre k. The preschool and pre k programs my daughter loved. She is extremely artistic and musical so their program fit her well. She learned how to read and write. We had some problems with bullying but was able to get it taken care of after a lot of follow up.

HOWEVER…..kindergarten was a nightmare. Within the first week my daughter was miserable. She couldn’t tell my why, just that she didn’t like her school anymore. I got called into a meeting after 2 1/2 weeks of kindergarten and was told by the head mistress (horrible woman) that my daughter was not able to continue kindergarten due to fidgeting, getting bored, playing with her tie etc. Did I mention she was 4? When I asked the teacher what her day in class was like I was told there was no longer any art and no longer any singing. It was 8 hours of reading, writing and math. They didn’t allow any drawing or anything artistic until all the lessons had been done for the day and all homework completed. They allowed no questions (I asked if the kids were allowed to question – the answer was no). I was not allowed in the classroom nor were the teachers allowed to give me daily or weekly information about how my daughter was doing because the head mistress didn’t want the children to feel like they were a in “a police state” and wanted them to be “responsible for themselves”. When I pointed out that she is 4 the headmistress said that they were putting her back in pre k and that was that.

I pulled my daughter out that week and enrolled her in Merryhill Private School. She has had no problems and they work with what ever the parents and children need.

I knew a lot of parents that enrolled their kids in challenger for preschool and pre k but never understood why until I dealt with that headmistress. After I pulled my daughter out of Challenger she called and left a message saying that my 4 year old daughter was a very valuable client. That right there sums up her problem, our children don’t matter to her. The money her “clients” bring in does.

This private school is biased. They base admissions on the conflict- resolution procedure with your children’s parents. A conflict was addressed to the school by me the parent, about problems with their fax machine. I expected my problem to be addressed and a response of how the problem was resolved. which I didn’t get. I had to ask them what they did to resolve the problem and they didn’t like that. They then had us wait a whole week before calling us in for a meeting about the fax problem and because we asked what steps they made to resolve that problem. At the meeting a week later we were told we need to review your application again (it was only in their possession for a week) and get back to you in a few days. So not only were they planning on rejecting us they wanted to keep us waiting for a denial instead of confronting us at that meeting because they don’t know how to resolve a conflict with a parent. Coming from a state with better schooling than nevada, this school doesn’t care about children their more worried about their staff being confronted about a conflict and what steps they made to resolve it than your child’s education. Also the school did not inform us of the application procedure before hand. I had to call another challenger school to find out it could take up to 3-5days for the head master to get back to you, but yet this School told us they would call the next business day and didn’t call us until a week after to tell us we don’t like the way you addressed our staff because we wanted to know what they did about the fax line. make us wait, no child’s education should be based on their parents wanting answers esp if their Paying a lot of money for it. This school is completely biased with out of state residents esp New Yorkers bc our level of education is better than nevada. I do not recommend this School unless you don’t care about being respected as a parent and an adult. I’m sure there is not one New Yorker in that school because I don’t think they can handle being questioned. The head master had no compassion toward a parent dealing with one of the most stressful things, moving esp across country.
