Channelside Academy of Math & Science does not care about their students or their future. My two oldest son’s were students here along with my sister and aunt’s children, this year we decided to pull them out. My aunt had her own reasons and issues with bullies, but the reason i pulled my son’s and didn’t allow my youngest to start here for the 22-23 school year was due to their poor staffing issues the previous year and failure to notice a bright student falling behind in school and failure to notify me of issues happening with my son. My son was in 5th grade last year and had 3 or 4 teachers for the school year due to staffing issues, but that wasn’t the biggest issue, as a mom who worked 12 hour shifts although it is also my responsibility to check in with my student it failed to check his grades myself, but when i noticed he was failing i sent emails, that were never replied to. my son had a bully that the school did nothing about, i had to contact the other parent myself through social media to find a solution. not one of his teaches paid attention to him being excessively talkative in class (any teacher I ever had always moved a students seat to ensure the student is staying focused and on task). on top of that not once did any one think to contact and notify us that his grades were falling behind, instead the educators sat behind their desks allowing a bright and intelligent child fail, of course any student that can see their teacher doesn’t care about what’s going on is also going to not care. we had to hire tutors in the last grading period and I ended up quitting my job as a nurse to be more attentive in my kids life because not even the teachers, guidance counselors or even principle cared enough to notice, when it was brought to their attention they just offered makeup work, no apologies or even excuses for the garbage teachers they had staffed for his 5th grade school year.
This is a terrible school and I would not recommend it to anyone. I’m not one to go as far as writing a review but I had to in this situation. I had two kids who attended here and I pulled them both out. My Son was failing while here and he never did at his elementary school he attended from K-5. Now he is thriving at his new school. Horrible Principal who doesn’t return calls, even when promised. Horrible office staff who can’t get anything straight. Terrible middle school staff, horrible after school program! The school is so completely unorganized. They didn’t even have teachers in place for every class when school started this year. They lost my child twice in the afterschool program and “thought he left for the day” mean while he was there the entire time and they didn’t know. The Assistant principal refused to allow me to have a conference with a teacher and told me “it’s against the law to allow a substitute to have a conference” meanwhile this teacher had been teaching that class since day one. Shes very rude with the students and parents. I can go on and on but I’ll stop. If you care about your kids education, do not choose this school.
If you enjoy having your children coming home crying, this is the school to go. I am a junior in high school and I went to CAMS from 4th to 8th grade and I am still traumatized to this day. The teachers when I went there were bias and incredibly rude to kids that were not their favorite. The principles changed grades for those who complained enough about the lack of education and communication. Being at this school made me develop depression, anxiety, and other mental issues at such a young age that have followed me since then. The kids are ruthless and the teachers are even worse. The food there is not edible and most of the time, expired. The school was all about preparing your child for high school but has done the exact opposite, I am struggling now because of the the teachers who were technically unqualified or just a parent willing to teach or sub. I wish I could erase the years I spent there because it truly messed me up and I will never forget how miserable I was.
