For being a student at this school its a little better than your standard middle school the only thing is there are many toxic kids one day i asked the social studies teacher how they even got in despite their behavior and he said they needed the money and from one perspective i see why but keep in mind we have a charles burrell at central high school and every year they get payed based on how well scholars did in CMAS and all the money the high school used even though it was a school that was completely fine in upgrades and etc charles burrell k-8 used to be peoria elementary so the school is pretty old the gym is what i’m most concerned about the floors are so filthy and falling apart and the stage is starting to cave in and the curtains hardly work the school needs a MASSIVE makeover but also for the fact the worst people i have seen in my life or for adults “A dose of the real world” There was a whole waitlist of at least 100 other kids wanting to go here for middle school so i was a little suspicious of it the teachers are fine there are so many complaints at school like “Oh the teachers are mean” they clearly show something about the students that they are immature and clearly weren’t behaving correctly in my opinion all the teachers are good the library is also a mess books everywhere and bookshelves blocking half of the room and the desk area is cluttered. the worst thing at this school is the communication between teachers and parents for example about events is horrible there was a middle school band concert and it was only filled with the parents of the people that those kids were in band and thats because the teachers never sent out a “Hey! there is a middle school band concert happening on the month of so and so” and people including my family were very unpleased with it and it is still a massive issue as of 2024 also to note some classrooms are very depressing comparing the science room the most science vibed room i have ever seen to the social studies room where its dark depressing and there are just printed off papers of some mayan structures on the walls. some rooms are very creative and nice while some are depressing the good thing is middle school at burrell has the privilege to have recess outside and for the fact we have more variety of condiments and sides for our meals and to be very honest the academic and studio based learning is very well put together many students say the teachers make them confused and struggle to learn but the straight fact the only reason is, is that they never ask for help they always are fidgeting with their “bracelets” and when they are called to figure out a math problem for example they go “Oh i didn’t have time to solve it” or “Idk” the community in some spots are very pitiful but in conclusion some things can be improved but the school serves its purpose
In my two years at Charles Burrell School, I’ve cherished the diverse academic offerings, the vibrant arts scene, and the supportive staff. However, one individual, Mr. Pilloud, has significantly dampened my experience.
Mr. Pilloud’s teaching style often involves criticism and harassment, lacking rationale. Recently, discussions on sensitive topics like cotton picking and monkeys left me, as an African student, feeling marginalized.
His behavior contradicts the inclusive environment the school aims to foster. Urgent action from the administration is needed to address this issue and uphold the school’s reputation.
While Charles Burrell School offers much to appreciate, Mr. Pilloud’s conduct highlights areas for improvement to ensure every student feels respected and valued.
As a student here at Burrell I think the school has had many improvements thew put my two years of attendance. Many great teachers how will have your students back and grow to love them like family, for the kids who dont have food or havent eaten that day teachers will provide food most of the time the old vice principal had a cabinet full of snacks for students who couldn’t eat that day, plus they have amazing help for students in distress, there art programs is something I thought was interesting due to the fact that they have about twice the about of time for extra content classes and still manage to have a good learning program aswell I have grown quite found to this school as my last year here is coming up, Im happy to see there over the summer improvements.
