This was an absolutely wonderful caring school. All of the staff and teachers were so caring and involved and knowledgable, supportive, compassionate, and kind. I really can’t say enough kind things about this place. It was a godsend for my child. I think it would not be an exaggeration to say they may have saved his life. They certainly saved his education and contributed immeasurably to his recovery. Really exemplary. I wish mainstream schools were like this a flexible supportive encouraging leaning environment.
I attended CCHS for three years, between 2017 and 2020. I came from a challenging background after changing schools multiple times and at the time I was dealing with a multitude of difficulties in my life. During my time there I received the best support that I could have ever asked for, from kind and compassionate teachers who treat every student with dignity and respect.

CCHS is one of a kind. Everyone feels that they are an integral part of a warm and familial community. Many students arrive at the school understandably lacking motivation for their education (myself included). The staff at CCHS make sure that every child is nurtured in their learning by individualising their learning and assigning each child their own mentor whom they can meet with if they have any concerns. For me, this meant meeting with my mentor for an hour a week and talking about whatever felt right at the time. This was an important part of my time at CCHS, as it gave the teachers insights on how to support me the best they could, and also was comforting to have someone to talk to.

CCHS is one of a kind. It’s more than an educational institution; it’s a warm and familial community where everyone feels involved. Many, myself included, arrived with a deficit in motivation, but the dedicated staff at CCHS ensured that every student’s learning journey was personalised. They assigned each child a mentor, creating a space for weekly one-on-one discussions that provided crucial insights for tailored support.

My academic journey at CCHS was a remarkable ascent. From being severely behind due to missing over a year of schooling, I not only caught up but excelled, achieving top grades in my GCSEs. The school’s flexibility allowed me to explore GCSE Statistics, a subject not typically offered. The teachers went above and beyond, providing one-on-one instruction tailored to my needs and fostering a culture where students could explore their unique academic passions.

Lessons at CCHS are interactive and engaging. The teachers seamlessly integrate real-world examples and practical applications into their lessons, fostering a dynamic learning environment. For example, in physics our teacher would always show us what we were learning using real life examples. This approach not only deepened my understanding but also sparked a genuine enthusiasm for the subjects I was studying to the point where I was carrying out my own computer science projects outside of school.

Unlike the conventional atmosphere in mainstream schools where teachers often seem distant, almost like a different species with minimal interaction beyond setting rules, CCHS defies this norm. Here, students and teachers bridge the gap, fostering an environment where names are more than titles. At CCHS, students address teachers by their first names, creating a sense of familiarity that helps students feel more comfortable putting their trust in the teachers and the school itself.

The school has community values that ensure students treat each other respectfully. This makes it easy for students to form friendships with each other that often last years after they leave the school. Things like group activities, trips and our weekly discussion group had a big impact on the way we all got along. I still speak to the majority of my classmates from that time.

Upon graduating from CCHS, the outstanding careers advisor at the school made sure that I was well prepared for re-entering mainstream school for my A Levels. He helped me search for work experience relating to my interests, consulted with me on what A Levels to choose, offered guidance on which schools to apply to, and set up exclusive open days with the schools which I was interested in. He did all of this during the pandemic, which makes it all the more impressive! Two years on, he even offered to read over my UCAS personal statement for applying to university. There is not a better careers advisor or school to support your child in moving to the next stage of their life.

My son was at CCHS for nearly 3 years, and it changed his life. The teaching was first-class and the support was unparalleled. This is an extraordinary school that I cannot say enough great things about. My son excelled in his GCSE’s there and went on to excel in his A-levels. Most of all, Janette Steele and each of his teachers helped him to grow into a thriving, happy, and very confident teenager. I will always be grateful.
I don’t even know where to start, I don’t think I quite have the words to thank the staff and praise the dedication and skills of the remarkable head, Ms Jannette Steel for leading a team of such outstanding professionals.

At the age of 14 my child sadly became unwell, and at possibly the darkest time we were given the opportunity for our child to attend this school. Ms Steel made sure that our child would be a good fit for the school and upon enrolment our child was given almost 1-2-1 care and support. The environment is highly supportive but not coddling and allows for the pupil to establish independence and autonomy after what might have been a debilitating experience with illness. Not only are the emotional needs of the child considered, but also the educational needs. The teachers went above and beyond to ensure that each and every childs’ specific needs were catered to with love, care and attention. My child went on to achieve 5 GSCEs through this school. I’m not surprised that this school got ‘Outstanding’ in its last OFSTED review.

Personally I think everyone who works here deserves some sort of award. Especially Ben and Janette who were in my opinion, like angels. They not only helped our child but they helped the whole family at a difficult time because they ensured that our child was able to establish a community and make friends, continue with education and build confidence and wonderful memories after a difficult period.

I can’t praise this school highly enough and I thank all the staff from the very bottom of my heart

If you are a parent who is going through the nightmare of watching your child be unwell, rest assured that this haven will be a safe and nurturing place for your child.

I had an incredible experience at CCHS. The teachers and staff were not only super knowledgeable in their subjects, but they were also really supportive and always went the extra mile to help me succeed. It was like having a second family at school. Without the help and support of the CCHS, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all the amazing staff, especially to Jannette, Ben, and Jonny who have been such incredible sources of support and strength during some of the toughest times in my life. You guys have played such a crucial role in my journey and I’m forever grateful for the continuous support, guidance and encouragement.

I can confidently say that Chelsea Community Hospital School is a fantastic place for learning and personal growth. I highly recommend it.
