CAL is great for education. I didn’t know God before I went here and I’m glad I was able to learn. BUT if you start your journey later, Bible class will be a challenge. I was bullied for my first year. People would say that no one liked me, to leave, and that I was a heifer. They also looked and treated at me differently because I didn’t have a massive house and money. I told the counselor at the time about me getting bullied and they told me, “ that it was life so you just have to get used to it.” CAL is not very welcoming for people with not the same beliefs. For example, LGBTQ+, Catholics, etc. CAL doesn’t even let you go to the school unless you go to church and are a Christian. I feel like they should let all people go to learn about God. Plus, teachers during my time there, would talk down about LGBTQ+ and other religions. I feel like that isn’t right. Once I found my crowd I loved being there but some of the things I heard and was taught I didn’t agree with.
Solid school for K-8 even though there are some issues. If a teacher doesn’t like you they’ll make your academic life hell. Some of the teachers have personal issues and take it out on their classes. I’m sure that problem would go away if the school paid teachers better and stopped lining the administrator’s pockets. However, some of the teachers do care and it almost makes up for the ones that don’t. Lunch is expensive and some of the rules are really specific. Maintenance issues are often disregarded. There’s a lot of after school activities to keep you entertained and meet new friends. I recommend looking for a new school after your child reaches 7th grade. Other private schools let you shadow and chances are you’ll find a better fit for them even if they have to make new friends.
