A lot could be said about some of the teachers. Montessori is a certain type of box, and if you do not fit into it, it will just not work. It sounded great at first, the concepts, learning process.. And as former student I can say that my experiences were emotionally traumatizing. I felt isolated and extremely misunderstood. A certain Mrs. “Teacher” could not understand my sensitivities, and how deeply I take things to heart. And that really made it difficult for me to learn in that environment. I ended up being home schooled because no matter how much my parents went to the school and confronted her, she did not listen and you could tell that she was annoyed. She did not understand who I was as an individual, and formed judgement’s about my character before even getting to know me. My parents pulled me out because it was too upsetting. For all of us. The process of trying to communicate ended up with it being “our fault”. They did not take the responsibility to see that the system does not work for every child, and they tried to keep me there because they couldn’t face losing their numbers So we disappeared, and found that other people had very similar experiences to ours.

We have had an excellent experience at Cleveland Montessori so far! My children all started in the primary classrooms. The teachers/staff are very welcoming to children and families. My kids have thrived in the Montessori environment. The teachers are all so caring and nurturing and my children absolutely adore them. Personally, I love the neighborhood the school is in (the kids get to walk to the nearby playground daily). Pre-Covid we loved the different activities planned outside of normal school hours like the Valentine’s Dance and Halloween activities – which are great times to connect with other parents!

Cleveland Montessori is a wonderful school. It’s not just about the materials they teach, but about their approach in working with the kids, the environment, and the strong sense of community. It’s wonderful to see how the children of different ages interact and learn from each other. The school fosters both independence as well as the importance of team work and nurtures they kids’ creativity. We are so happy to be part of this community.
