Coastal is a good choice for a charter school in this area. This is our 3rd year. Although we only have 1 child attending now, as we opted for private school for the older 2 starting this year, we would definitely recommend the school. Of course, its not for the faint of heart. You DO have to teach. The environment is safe and clean. The kids are polite, they offer art and music, and they have a cute art show. You do, on occasion, run into a kid who introduces your child to words you dont approve of, so its not an unrealistically sheltered environment, but its better than most when dealing with a public institution. A new curriculum was recently adopted, which was good because the old one was outdated, but we personally did not find the new choice to be a good fit for our older kiddos. Overall, this is a good school choice, as long as you do your job as a parent and teach your child.
Coastal Academy is our best option for TK-8th grade. The campus is very nice and spacious but more importantly, the staff is exceptional. Looking for options for your child who doesn’t quite fit into the typical public school mold? This is it. Customize the education your child needs with on campus or homeschool options. Hands down the best school in North County, we are sad to be graduating. On to Classical Academy High!
