As parent of children that go to school there let me first start off and state the teachers at Coldwater do a phenomenal job and actually do care about the students at Coldwater. However, that doesn’t make up for the massive bullying problem and other incidents that have happened at the school for the 2016-2017 school year under the first year principal Mr. Dix. He acknowledges the current problems, but fails to report those back to the parent or parents when a situation arises. Had a conference and he offered no valuable solutions to the problems, in all honesty he didn’t seem to interested in having the conference as well. When I asked of one situation that involved my daughter in which the school didn’t notify me of the situation, (had to find out from my child that came home crying) when I called the school to ask about the incident. (my daughters bathroom stall door being kicked open) the school counselor along with the principal in exact words I will put them in quotations. ” we didn’t feel the situation was a concern”. Unfortunately privacy is a very big concern, in my opinion.

As for bullying in the school, it has gotten out of hand and is ridiculous to the point that the education of students (my child) has been interrupted and can’t do her work because of the constant problems in the school or classrooms. Addressed those to the principal. (Mr. Dix) and he does nothing about it.

Had to raise my complaint to the Superintendent in charge of Coldwaters principal in order to get a solution and resolvance in place for the issues that are going on in the school. He sounded sincere and apologized for everything that has gone on. Sounds like the Superintendent also wants to fix the problems, As compared to Mr. Dix who has yet to even apologize for any of the incidents that I’ve brought to his attention.

I feel bad about the review, but when the bullying problem in the school goes unanswered along with other incidents unfortunately that is the way it goes. Wake up Mr. Dix and realize that every incident and bullying incident should always be reported back to the parent or parents of the students. As a principal you have done a unsatisfactory job and there is no excuse for it. Unacceptable, period.

I could not be happier with this school.

Academically, this is a good school. The teachers here are passionate and innovative. All of the teachers our girls have had so far exhibit a passion for learning, for children and for engagement that goes well beyond the ‘just a job’ category. Archaeology, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, Math Applications, Music Theory, Crafts from Pinterest dreams, Computer Skills and Yoga are all some of the neat subjects our girls have mentioned that probably aren’t being tested but our girls are learning.

The administrative staff and the teachers appear to have a close working relationship that, to parents at least, appears to be one of support and cooperation. The staff here cares immensely about the students and the school exudes the feeling of a community. It is an open and caring environment.

Lastly, I want to mention the school’s focus on character. While not a magnet school, it shares certain characteristics of one. The school has a strong focus on building character. Respect, responsibility and kindness are the ideals of the school, and students are rewarded for demonstrating these traits. Our girls come home talking about how they can be good citizens. How they need to treat others with respect. How they need to be responsible. How they should be kind to others. And while it is not the school’s job to teach these traits, it is certainly nice, as a parent, to have these lessons reinforced in an academic setting.

I feel very blessed to have my daughters attend this wonderful little school. It is quite the gem.

The school is OK. My child had great teachers but the discipline at the school was non-existent. My child’s class could not even participate in science experiments due to the behavior of the class. I also asked for my child to be tested for Galactic (advanced studies), and that was over a month ago. She has still not been tested. Had an issue where my child was threatened to be stabbed and the principal did not do too much to handle the situation. The parents never sat down to discuss this or anything. I even contacted the Superintendent and nothing was done. So, as far as the school goes, it just depends on what kids are there the year your child enrolls. The teachers are great though.
