I had to go to the Baltimore City Public School System to file a complaint. No one from Collington Square School called me to let me know my 11 yr old daughter was injured with a swollen eye and face and scar on her right cheek from being hit in the face with a computer cord that her teacher was playing jump rope with outside. My daughter had called me herself from another teacher’s phone to tell me her face was hurting and stinging and she wanted to come home. My daughter’s teacher never called and I had to call her to find out what happen. The 1st time I called looking for my duaghter’s teacher she kept saying my daughter was hit with a jump rope and the little girl apologized for it, then she rushed off the school phone. I called a 2nd time when my dad picked his grand daugher(my child) up from school and said her face looks bad and my daughter said she was hit in the face with a computer cord and another student said the teacher did it. My daughter said she was standing beside the teacher talking in a group while the teacher was playing with the computer cord with another student. I called the school a 2nd time, an office clerk was ignorant and she “didn’t your daughter just call you”. I told the office clerk I’m coming up to the school. I went up to the school and asked my child’s teacher again what happen and did she do that to my child’s face? The teacher said she didn’t do that and again she got hit with a jump rope. I asked to see the jump rope, then the teacher confessed it was a Ethernet computer cord. I had to tell my child’s teacher she didn’t apologized for the incident, not calling to report it to me or her father, and that playing with a computer cord was careless. I didn’t get an apology from the teacher until I told her she didn’t apologize. The teacher tried to justify that a real jump rope would have done worse to my child’s face than the computer cord. I told the teacher that it’s dangerous and careless and even if I wasn’t a mother I would not have no one’s child playing with or around a computer cord. I could have purchased jump ropes from the Dollar Store for the school The Assistant principal apologized and said he’ll find out why the school nurse didn’t call and I told him the same thing someone could have purchased real jump ropes from the Dollar Store. The Principal said she’ll talk to the teacher. I went to Baltimore City Public school system and reported what happen because i felt like my child was at school suffering and the school staff didn’t care or was afraid to own up to what really happened. Waiting to hear from Baltimore city school system. Transferring my child from this school. The school doesn’t handle incidents properly, the school office staff is unprofessional, some of the teachers try to be a friend instead of a teacher, the school doesn’t handle bullying properly, the teachers give terrible copies of homework and the same work over and over again and the area is bad. This school needs a great principal like Mr. Easton who retired many yrs ago in 2004. This school hasn’t been the same since he left. Maybe one day it’ll become a great school again.
This school and the surrounding area is a nightmare! The middle schoolers expose so much to the little elementary school children. A staff member was dating a student (2017). There’s shootings within a mile of this school almost every month. There’s men selling drugs at the park next to the school and/or surrounding streets. And if it weren’t for me homeschooling my daughter, in conjunction with her attending this school, she would probably be so behind, academically.
My stomach dropped too many times, THIS YEAR ALONE, at how many times I heard the news mention something happening at the school or near it. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE UNTIL THEY GET IT TOGETHER, IF EVER! I’m working on getting my child out! My daughter’s behavior has dramatically declined since going here and she’s only been here 2 years! I’ve never had this many issues from her old school.
UPDATE: I noticed a bunch of good reviews on here…but these are people that haven’t been in the past few years! This school has gone down hill!!
Not a good school for your kids it’s fights everyday they don’t have heat they have no control over the kids too much at that school I have to transfer my kids cause this it not the school for them I fill like the kids not learning
