In the beginning, this was what seemed to be a more than exemplary school. Your education is handed to you on a silver platter, you get funds for extra curricular activities, youre happy. The atmosphere, the students, everyones so kind, how could you give this 1 star? If I had the option I would give it 0. I am diagnosed with Chronic Depression, Social Anciety, ADHD, Occular Migraines, Wolff-Parkinson-White-Syndrome, and the list goes on. I was born with these, and they have never gone away, and they most likely never will. As of today, November 29, 2017 I was notified I will be dropped from the school at the ending of this semester, December 19th. Why you ask? I have been removed from or struggled in three schools and this will now be my fourth. It was not because I was lazy, not because I delivered bad grades, or because I was getting in fights, or was just plain stupid. It was because of in the third grade I needed heart surgery, putting me out of school for four months. I missed many things, and it caused me to quickly fall from top of my class to the bottom. Being home then thrown back into school trigged my panic disorder, and brought it to light. A panic disorder is different than anxiety, it causes you to not be able to form coping machanisms. So if youre overwhelmed with any kind of emotion, you will simply shut down, or do something potentially life threatening. I fell behind, and was proceeded to be left behind. People tried to push me forward, but I didnt understand what I was learning. I did my best, I stayed in the High C grades despite not knowing the material being given to me. I eventually began self harming, especially after the first school gave up on me. I thought this school was different. I was getting good grades, almost As on every assignment. But it was taking me awhile to settle in to this new system, so I fell behind a little bit. A little bit turned into quite a bit since I was overwhelmed and my motivation shut down. I didnt want to be bedridden with anxiety again so I tried my hardest to continue. I kept getting missing assignment reports and unrealistic expectations of catching up in a week, 5 days, eventually two days. The time would get shorter each time and the workload bigger. Stay current and just take the hit for the missing work was what a teacher said, I wont be staying names. So thats what I was trying to do, but got in trouble for not trying to catch up again. They claimed to see no determination or effort despite me trying as hard as I can with my disabilities and all. I feel that they have completely discrimated me for having mental illnesses I have no control over. They do not actually care about your well being aside from a few very kind and lovely teachers. They only care about what makes their school look good. I HIGHLY recommend you do not send your child here if they have ANY mental health issues/disabilities. They will personally attack you since they clearly dont take into account your illnesses.
Best public home-schooling option by far. Only problem is them promoting the Common Core Testing Standards and curriculum. If the School District would opt for testing alternatives which are tried and true standardized testing options and curriculum as an alternative to Common Core it would be at the forefront in taking back education from the stifling control of the low expectations of the Federal and State Governments. Parents home-school their children because they want them to excel not be hindered by the poor quality of an unadaptable generic government education.
The Common Core curriculum and standardized testing should be an option. Forcing all the schools to comply to the curriculum and testing regime is the antithesis to progress. Let the curricula and standardized testing options compete it will be much better for our educational system.
