The Montessori philosophy is a holistic approach focused on teaching the whole child. The classrooms are unique from regular public school in that there are three small groups of differing grade levels in each room. 1st, 2nd, 3rd in lower elementary, 4th, 5th, 6th, in upper elementary, and 7th and 8th in middle school. There is more movement in a Montessori classroom as the children move around to gather materials, seek a lesson, or take a break. The curriculum follows the emotional, physical, and mental development of the child. In lower and upper elementary classrooms you will find hands on materials to engage children covering many modalities of learning. As they move toward middle school children move past concrete thinking into more abstract thought.
Students that are self-driven and inquisitive tend to excel within the Montessori environment. They receive more responsibility, in a safe environment, that stresses community and peace.

The teachers are caring and always seeking improvement. The Montessori teacher is not the center of the classroom. Lessons are given in both small group, individual, and whole class settings. While it is not a STAAR driven school, it does seek to make sure the students are prepared and feel ready for the testing format.

It is a great community and a wonderful place to work. Any teacher will tell you their kids are the best and I have to follow suit. Our children are mindful, inquisitive, helpful young members of society. It is a pleasure working with them and being a part of the campus community.

Unlike the other two people posting, I really like this school and moved my son there after my husband and I became dissatisfied with CCISD. CCMS is a charter school so it’s free to send your kid there, but it seems a lot more like a private school in that the kids get personal attention and the staff is flexible enough to accommodate all different kinds of learning styles. They follow the Montessori approach of offering child-based learning, which keeps kids more interested in school since they are allowed to choose what they learn when, at least to some extent. Many of the parents who send their kids there are well educated and some are teachers themselves, so the kids have a lot of educational support at home as well. The first person posted something negative about the former director … there is a new director now and she is awesome. So I encourage parents to come check out our school. I think you’ll like it. You can call the director and get a personal tour of the school.
