Mums and dads, always trust your gut and if something does not feel right, do not be afraid to speak up or act on your thoughts. Even if you look and sound like a crazy, neurotic, overprotective parent, who cares? You would rather that than end up in a situation like we did. We wanted our son to be bilingual so we always spoke to him in our native language, we explained this to the director and the teachers there and apparently they were going to speak to him in English, that way he will learn both languages. Instead, we received complaints about our son not speaking at all, being abusive to others and the even to the teachers. He was only frustrated for their lack of empathy and coldness and did not know how to express himself. The drop that filled the cup was when he pulled the hair of the directors daughter, that was too much for them! They call us and basically told us that our son had ADHD and need it urgent help. The whole experience was very traumatic for my son and for our whole family. We trusted this people and paid them to take care of our most beloved treasure, and he was just discriminated for speaking another language and having another culture. I am happy to say that he is now a happy, healthy 24-month-old boy and he is loving life at his new childcare center. As I said before, never be afraid to speak up. I wish I had been more scrupulous about checking everything was in place before leaving him under their care. I wish I had spoken to more of the staff there about him and most of all, I wish I had followed my gut and taken him out the first day. I have learnt a lot from that awful experience and when it comes to your beautiful children, you can never be too careful. Especially when someone else is looking after them.
My son was only at this forks center for about 2-3 months (a year and a half ago). I had such high hopes as I liked the teacher, and I liked how clean it seemed. Unfortunately it was clear that no one had a handle on the kids. My little boy (2 at the time) was bullied and picked on by the older/bigger kids in his class to the point he would scream and cry no no no as we pulled into the parking lot. He came home with several bites, scratches and I witnessed another child push my toddler down (as I was gathering his things), and then laughed afterwards. It took a few weeks and pop in visits to realize that it wasnt just separation anxiety my son was feeling, he was full blown terrified to step foot in this place. It never got better after 1-2 months. When I brought my concerns to the director it was mentioned that theres a lot of behavioral issues in this class, and theres not much we can do about it. My son should have been moved to a different class, or there should have been more staff to help the situation. The only solution was me pulling him out of there permanently. Prior to this center we were at another one with my older child for over 5 years so I understand that no daycare is perfect, but this one really was horrible. Ill never forget my screaming child screaming no go as we pulled in. Wish I wouldve trusted my gut sooner. I cant say anything for the Palmer location, as that one may be better.
