Throwing their chocolate milk on me while I’m drawing PEACEFULLY BY MYSELF in the lunch room. I didn’t deserve it. I was quietly drawing by myself, but the students decided to pick on me for being alone.
And what did the teachers do?? Pull me aside to eat elsewhere with a bunch of students I don’t know. I don’t even know if they did anything to the boys who picked on me.
I was always in trouble for doing little things, or doing nothing wrong. I didn’t do anything wrong. I followed as many of the rules as I can remember.
I was always an easy target because I’m so emotional, I guess….. I hate school.
I was a volunteer pole vault coach for the track team and was asked not to return after I spent weeks training and getting to know these kids. I was told that it was an insurance issue in case i was hurt on property, but it wasn’t like I was pole vaulting myself? This was right before the district track meet too. I went as a spectator but wasn’t allowed in the pit area to give any kind of advice or tips. It was upsetting to have to tell the kids that I couldn’t be there in a coaching capacity, but at least they all wanted me to come and watch them vault. Later I found out that out had nothing to do with insurance but rather that the head track coach didn’t like how I taught the vaulters how to jump. Being a former state championship vaunter I would think that they would have wanted me on their team, especially for free, but I guess not. Oh well their loss.
The staff here don’t seem to quite grasp the idea that if they expect the students to be responsible for themselves, perhaps they should treat them as such, and speak on their level rather than looking down their noses, especially when they’re being “helpful.”
The biggest issue I personally dealt with, they disregard mental health, they praise students for working through their health problems (which is good! They did good!) but they act as if student who don’t or can’t are failing themselves. This only applies for physical health issues, I’m not sure they ever look to notice any potential mental health problems, choosing instead to chalk it up to laziness and failure, essentially. I had the same three “solutions” recommended to me a hundred times, and every time I told them it doesn’t work for me, and every time I got told to try harder. Things just don’t quite work like that when your brain isn’t producing the chemicals it needs to.
