My husband and I have five children, and when our oldest was looking for a smaller high school five years ago, we came across Crown. We were impressed with their individualistic and project-based learning approach with education.

I am an educator and nurse by trade. I appreciate a different approach to what our modern-day public school classroom offers. I have seen a dramatic shift over 19 years with our education system. I feel our system is broken. We are producing stressed out, mentally ill kids that do not have a balanced life. I think children should do their own work. Kids have so much work these days in traditional schools that parents have to help them to get them into a good college. We inadvertently set them up for failure in the long run.

My husband and I’s goal is to raise independent, healthy adults. We want to give them the tools to be successful in their life journey. We do not think excessive homework is as beneficial for their overall well-being compared to a balanced life that includes volunteering, after-school job, spending time with family, having a hobby, or just being bored some days. We want them to be human BE-ings more than human DO-ings. They are inherently worth more than just what they can produce or score on tests.

We strive to take into account not only our children’s academics but their spiritual, mental, emotional, and social health when we decide on education. They spend more time with their teachers and peers than with us, so I want them to be in a place where they can grow to be who God intended them to be. We want them to swim upstream and not just fit into the box our education system has created as the standard.

At Crown, the entire staff looks at each child’s uniqueness and wants to find out what makes each child tick. They want to foster growth in those strengths. They are okay with them all not fitting into a pre-determined box.

Once we enrolled our oldest and had such a phenomenal experience, we moved our other four over to the school. It has changed our life for the better in more ways than one. No school is perfect, and what we pay for at Crown is not cut and dry. We look at it as an investment into their whole being. There is more than one way to do school, college, and life. Crown works for our family. It does not work for everyone’s but if you are looking for a change and community of teachers who teach much more than traditional subjects, give Crown a chance.

Crown Leadership Academy is a true blessing. As a parent when my kids go to school everyday, I hope they’re safe, happy, and being taught the right things. I want them to put God first, I want to know they’re in the hands of Godly people, to be led by the Spirit and grow as they find their individual passions, to be free to think independently/outside the box, to treat others with kindness and compassion, to be able to work together as a team as well as an individual, to stand firm in what they believe in even if that means standing alone for awhile, to be accountable for their decisions and actions, to love school/learning, to learn early that balance is key work/play, and to just be able to enjoy childhood without all the homework.

Crown Leadership is all of this and so much more. In the past, they found every reason under the sun to not go to school, some legitimate. Now, I can’t keep them away from school. I was making dental appointments other day and now I hear, mom it needs to be another day, I have school, can we do on day I don’t. They are up every morning without me telling them twice, pack their own lunches, get dressed/out the door, excited for school. I can’t even explain how much this makes my life easier as single parent. They even get up on Fridays to go, yet attendance is optional. I ?? it!
God truly blessed us by guiding us to this school.
Lathan, Sara, teachers, students, the education and environment, it’s amazing and I’m so impressed by the family that God has built and brought together!

After seven years, I couldn’t be more pleased with our experience at Crown! I can’t think of a better endorsement than my middle schooler who’s excited about going to school each day. I’m most impressed by the entire staff’s investment in her growth as a whole person. They are tireless advocates for their students and have successfully created a community of learning, kindness and cooperation that involves everyone at the school. Their incredible project-based learning approach has proven over and over again to be both a dynamic way of teaching and an opportunity for the students to learn how to support and encourage one another throughout the process. Every teacher I’ve encountered at Crown has shown me in countless ways that they are committed wholeheartedly to Crown’s vision for preparing their students mentally, emotionally and spiritually to be a force for good in the world. None have shown this more than principals Lathan and Sara, whose energetic love and concern for each individual student is nearly palpable anytime I walk the halls of the school. Under their leadership, I am both confident in and excited about my daughter’s future, the future of Crown Leadership Academy, and the gifts its graduates will be to the world we share. As a parent, there’s perhaps no anxiety greater than turning your child over to the care and influence of someone else. To any parent wishing for a school where you’ll be sure your child is educated, nurtured and cared for on every level, I fully recommend Crown.
