I am new to the Houston area and this is my children’s first year going to school in Houston. Going into it i knew it would be a culture shock but i didn’t imagine having issues where my children attend school. The campus monitor and receptionist are the main reason for my rating. They are the face of the school and one of the first people you have to interact with when entering the school. My experiences with them are horrible every time i come to my children’s school and it sucks for the office staff because they are gossiping about the incidents and looking at me differently instead of being above foolishness. They’ve created an unwelcoming environment to the point i cant be as involved with my children at school as i am use to. My children have great teachers. I am not in agreeance with their parent/lunch scheduling. I also do not agree with being harassed for my drivers license every time i come to drop off/pick up my children ( I am the same person and still their parent every time i come). This school also does not enforce/ encourage outside play which i think makes a difference on a childs education having a break away from learning and being able to be social with their friends. Other than this it’s a nice school and the rest of the staff seems friendly.
My children attend this school and I must say they are very UNORGANIZED and have 0 COMMUNICATION skills what so ever. Today is the 2nd day that my kids are still not home on time. Mind you they get out at 3:00pm and it is going to be 5:00pm already. I did not get a call from the school regarding this matter in fact me and the neighbors had to call the school looking for our children just to get informed that they were still at the school. I ask myself why didn’t the school contact the parents of the kids? I asked the front office and all they could tell me was “Call transportation”. In my opinion BOTH the school and transportation need communication training! If they kids are still on the school property that makes it the school’s job to inform us but in this case all they do is say “It’s not our job, Call transportation”. With all this being said my kids will NOT be back in this school next year and the superintendent will hear about this!!!
This is really a terrible, terrible school. Believe it or not, it has always been. My brother goes to this school and yet, there’s still NO BUSES. Also, he’s always coming home with low grades since his attention is always on his bullies that HE ACTUALLY REPORTED ON and the teacher did nothing and I mean ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. They never even took his side of his story when a bully tried to fight him and even lied that he was fighting with him. I don’t want him to be in an environment where bullying is seemingly allowed by elementary teachers or even when his voice couldn’t be heard. If anyone ever considers putting their child/children in this elementary school, I suggest one that actually provides transportation and eradicates bullying from the campus. I know Aldine will never see this review but I hope someday they really change the way they are although I doubt it.
