I’m a parent and I have also observed that the school does convey that it aims high, but my experience is that some of the teachers fall short, while others have done an excellent job. There are a couple of teachers that punish the students because they can’t maintain control of the class. However, I’m also a former teacher and I can tell you those problems exist in almost any school (public, charter, or private). I have been pleased with the quality of education that my children have been receiving. One huge benefit of children going to a charter school of this size is that it is a smaller community, so it’s easier for the parents to get to know each other. Communication with the parents of your child’s friends is very important.

What I don’t understand is why neither DaVinci or Howard Burnham (the elementary school that feeds DaVinci) teach handwriting.

So another reviewer is exactly right in suggesting taking advanced courses at Franklin might be a better option. However, I (as a parent) like the smaller environment where I know my children’s friends and their parents.

I have three kids in the school system from Howard Burnham Elementary into Davinci for 9 years now. The school is structured, disciplined, and challenges students in all subjects. There is homework, projects,
public speaking expected starting in kinder. There are opportunities to learn violin, piano, multiple languages, Robotics, and Sports since elementary level. The curriculum is challenging and rewarding; the students learn both academics and respect. The staff and teachers have always been supportive and available. The campus is small enough that you get to know the parents, kids, and teachers on a name basis. As parents we feel blessed to have our kids at this school; seeing them participate in so many activities and flourish has been amazing!
