The school deserves no rating if Im honest. I attended this school and they failed me miserably when it came to my education. I would schedule meetings with my guidance counselor and he would never meet with me, I would ALWAYS have to flag him down during my 5minute passing period or even take time out of my lunch (they always run out of lunches for students, but thats more a district thing than the school) to find him, sometimes he would even run away from me if he caught a glimpse of me walking towards him. Is this the kind of people you want interceding into your childs lives? People who are being paid to literally listen, speak and problem solve with your children RUNNING AWAY from them? People who literally do not even TRY to bs their jobs? Dont get me wrong they have some pretty decent teachers but the teachers who are good only make up 1/3 of the staff possibly even less then that… long story short I ended up having to leave the district completely. Regardless of the amount of reports I made, the many fails I had trying to achieve at this school, absolutely nothing was done about it I would just get the cold hearted response of Im not sure what you would like for us to do about that… or Well give you a list of OTHER schools in this district that you will love and when I attempted to goto those schools I either got the response you live too far. Or I dont think were able to solve your problem either… theres no passion for their students all acrossed the district. So if you care for you child and if they are attending this school or any in this district do your best to be involved with them and their work. And especially in contact with their teachers and events for parents at the school(s) and the district itll help you a little bit. But overall I would look for a school thats just completely not in bounds. On a good note my grad year was 2016, I graduated on time and all those obstacles these individuals put me through helped me get a long ways in life. Now one of my siblings goes to this school and I can help them beat this corrupt system they call education and my sibling will strive off of the knowledge I now have.
This school is like my big ass, It gets in the way, at random times it hurts and everyone says good things about it even though it’s not so great… So overall this school is ass… Although so is the Federal Way school district in general and our superintendent is as well, like seriously lady quit your job you are seriously horrible. I was a student and I could run schools better than you.
Show up and go through the motions for a bunch of indifferent teachers who don’t care. That’s what being a student at Decatur High School in Federal Way, Washington is like. In fact, it’s life throughout the Federal Way School District.
