I was the fist student to attend Mrs. Robbins school, opening day we had her family attending, her husband was compton police and he was a nice white police officer he protected us from the racist white cops on the force that would beat us up. Mrs. robins is loved by us dearly, she showd the highest honer we had he copusin ronald reagan the president come around and check on us. mrs. robbins believed in disipline and respect. We had peace on her grounds from the time you steped foot on campus you were at peace. we hd morning prayer like you could not amagine the intire school gathered every day to sing praise to god and peace. it went like this let there be peace on earth and let it begain with me, with god as are father brothers and sisters are all of we, so let me walk with my brother in perfect hermony. let here be peace on earth and let it begin with me. There was peace no way we enjoyed that safe haven. If you did one thing out of line like even spit in the court yard throw trash, vandalize on Dickerson Elementury school you would be beat to death or straight murdered. some of the most dangerious thugs and professional people you cant amagine came out of that school and lived daily when mrs. robins, and her staff was in that school or on campus we loved those people that went into that little los angeles forum looking school. that had safe and clears passage any where the wanted in compton, the majority of the lived in compton or no more then five minutes away from compton. Mrs.Robins, Mrs. Janell Brown. Mrs. Blondeal Filer,( superior court judge hommie Kiven and District Atterny lil brother Anthony filers mom and my hood mom) Mrs.Deloris Zurita (Vice Mayor girlfriendlol Jannia Zurita and Compton USD Superintendent girlfriendlol Satra Zurita Mrs. Zuritas Daughter and hood mother also aunt to the best mayor we had in times of are worst battels who should be reelected that protected us well brother Omar) I was a student at Dickerson, also im the unknown black kid in the picture with the Johnson brothers that same week or few later I was shot in the left eye by the Johnson brother horse playing around. no bad feelings accidents happen and boys will be boys all forgiven they we believe. Dickerson was at my time a brand new school that Mr.s robbins gave us a opertunity to expand are learning potential and grow she made sure that we had everything that we needed to achieve, teachers that went beyound the calkl of duty to protect and give us the best education that the califorina school systems offered. at the time we had the name Dickerson Dolls. but some of us were a little hard headed and stupid to become damn dolls and later not Tarbabes but glue babies stuck on stupid sniffing air plane glue, etc type but over all inside of dickerson Elementary there was peace love joy happiness, in a constructive learning enviroment. Dickerson class of opening day to class of1972 and headed to the 7th grade in compton 1972 makes me a Baby original when black/brown SA english speaking people declaired being known for being straight out of compton. and that horrible curse plaque infected us with crips and bloods and divided the majority of us but mrs. robbins and dickerson was the safe haven place of peace in a battle ground of the most dangerious times for a black or brown youth in compton. The after school was open behing brick walls for cover until night the dickerson community Lighted Schools you could be there until 10pm cerfew and not on the streets and parks, they belonged to the gangs. We had dickerson neutral grounds you could come there from anywhere any type of gang we at peace in there. peace love forever. because of Mrs. robins I know what love and peace is insted of harboring violance and hate! Mr. dickersons daughter rest in peace. i love dearly for that you did for us bad ass kidslol.
Oh how I loved that school…I was there for 4th, 5th and 6th grade! Many, many years ago…my teachers were Ms. Barber who taught me to love reading and encouraged me to soar beyond and to always strive for the best, beyter….then Mrs. Pinkney…she was an awesome teacher too…then Mr. Dunn….he was a great teacher…I’ll never forget him…his knowledge of life and literature was amazing! Ms. Robbins and the rest of the staff were exemplary and inspired me to become a teacher…they always had very high expectations and it was a safe haven in a not so nice world! I would love to talk to students who attended those classes/ had those teachers around 1971-72.
