Where to begin with this review. Well I can start with saying that if I had the opportunity to send my child elsewhere for her education I would jump at the chance. My child who is in the 6th grade has been assaulted numerous times physically, she has been threatened with rape & death on separate occasions. She was grabbed in her crotch and all these offending children are still students at the school. There are fights daily in the various academies, just yesterday there were 6. The school staff has absolutely no control over the student body what so ever. When trying to deal with issues the assistant principal is dismissive, the principal is no better. They have children fill out incident reports and nothing is ever done. Explain to me why my child was attacked from behind before spring break and I did not hear about it from the school, I heard it from my child. They have all my contact information from 2 phone number to my email. It’s absolutely disgraceful. I have gone to the Superintendents office and get nowhere, it is frustrating as a parent to send your child to school where they do not feel safe. Maybe this will grab the schools attention or the county. I sincerely hope so, this cannot continue.
My daughter has been enrolled in the gifted program for 2 years, and our overall experience has been wonderful. The teachers are all excellent and hold gifted teaching credentials, most w/post graduate education as well. the teacher at an advanced level, with a lot of focus on critical thinking and complex thinking skills, and both independent and group learning. There is a lot of hands on learning, especially in science, and they have the supplies and resources available help the kids to engage in advanced learning at their their academic levels. We have found our daughter is very happy in this program, as it challenges her, provides good social and emotional support for her as a gifted individual. Gifted have unique learning and social emotional needs that are provided by the center for gifted students which is integrated into the curriculum, as well as through the relationships between students that occurs through their classes and club participation.
Terrible school, theres NEVER front staff, if you walk in to speak to Secretarys, you get children. Thats who you have to speak to, kids, minors, children. And if you have a problem, “write an incident report” thats all they do. Its a mess, if these ADULTS AND STAFF ACTUALLLLLLY pay attention to the students, you wouldn’t have, BULLYS THEIVES ETC… SMH WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT TO THE TOWN OF DUNEDIN.
