I’m so sad to give them one star. We have been with Emler CP for 3 years. It has gotten awful this past year. 1) the instructors are not consistent, my daughter had 3-4 different instructor changes this session alone. She’s 4, and they put her in a class with 8 year olds and expected her to act like an 8 year old. 2) one day they cancelled class because they didn’t have enough teachers and did NOT refund me, but offered the most useless “makeup token” which my kids already had 3+ for the entire session. A make up token is given when Emler cancels classes for a variety of reason – this session is was poop, solar eclipse and not having a teacher available and more poop/vomit! A makeup token is useless, especially when there are multiple, for families that work and have other obligations and activities. The “poop” problem happens, but has significantly increased due to probably the lack of enforcement of the use of swim diapers.
For the amount of money paid, kids are in 4 person classes for 30 minutes and maybe swim for 15 minutes of it. The pool is over packed and the AC was definitely broken on 5/20/24- like it’s broken in the parent waiting area- it was actually cooler IN the pool.
Finally – it is DIRTY. The swim deck, changing rooms – it is not clean at all. For the record- it USED to be clean. They used to mop regularly.
Theyre so disorganized – corporate needs to get involved. The “better” swim instructors are all leaving for college so it’s a batch of brand new people that seem bored and disinterested in the kids.
Used to love it here but my advice is save your money and go elsewhere. This place is expensive for the money and time we have paid – and yields little to no benefit. We won’t be returning as well as our friends who have had the same experience.
My daughter attended a class here at Emler, and it over all went well, but during the semester she developed a fear of the pool. We spent every class trying to get her acclimated back in, but it didn’t go too well, especially when they dunk your crying child under the water. Prior to that instance, we had enrolled her in the next semester, but after coughing up water in the pool, she was even more terrified. We attempted to cancel the new class prior to the first day and we were met with an awful experience. First, no one at Emler ever answers the phone, and when they do they just hang up immediately. Finally after a lengthy email, they gave us a call back to try and mend the situation. We were told it’s normal for kids to be scared, of course, but their alternative was to move my scared child to a class where the parents wouldn’t be present. That obviously seems insane to take a scared child away from their parents so we declined the offer. Afterwards they said they would not be willing to give us a refund for a class that hasn’t even started yet because we “didn’t try hard enough”, as though the 14 week class we took prior wasn’t “trying”. I completely understand not being able to quit and get a refund on a service you have already received, but not being allowed to cancel prior to class starting is a bit odd. Especially when it comes to a young child’s fear that was clearly induced by the location itself. These people have shown that they care more about sales than children’s wellbeing.
I don’t know how this place has so many positive reviews. I signed my almost 2 year old and 4 year old up for lessons last summer and we ended up dropping out midway through. Both my children, as well as my husband and myself found the environment here to be super chaotic and overwhelming. I don’t know how it is a conducive situation for most children learning to swim. Not to mention they have a ridiculous contact so if you go to the first lesson and hate it, they will not refund your money. If you miss a class you have to pay for a make-up. However, Emler cancelled several classes with very short notice due to not having an instructor available. They offered a free make-up session within an allotted amount of time but I never took them up on it because my kids hated it here and so did I. The pool area is tiny and overcrowded and it feels like you’re sitting in a susne. The changing rooms and restrooms are of course soaking wet and there are no dry surfaces to put your belongings. Also no changing tables for the little ones.
