Parents & Students Reviews:
Fairhaven School has 9 reviews with an overall rating of 2.9. Some reviews have been edited for clarity.
1. Communication Accessibility: The communication methods and tools provided for nonverbal children seem limited and not tailored to individual needs. More comprehensive and personalized communication options, such as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, should be made available.
2. Specialized Training: It appears that some staff members lack sufficient training and expertise in effectively communicating and interacting with nonverbal children. Additional training programs focusing on AAC devices, sign language, and understanding nonverbal cues would greatly benefit both staff and students.
3. Inclusive Curriculum: The curriculum does not seem to adequately incorporate strategies for supporting nonverbal children in all learning environments. There should be a strong emphasis on inclusive practices that promote participation and engagement for all students, regardless of their communication abilities.
4. Parental Involvement: There is a need for improved communication and collaboration between the school and parents/guardians of nonverbal children. Regular updates, workshops, and resources should be provided to empower families in supporting their childs communication and educational needs.
I urge the school administration to prioritize these concerns and take proactive steps to enhance the services and support provided to nonverbal children. Every child deserves an inclusive and empowering educational experience, and I believe these improvements are essential for achieving that goal.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely, Angela
Multiple times we caught them pre-filling out his activity sheets (we would pick him up in the morning and they already had the afternoon filled out). When we voiced our concerns to the principal it was basically just hand-waved and all our concerns were denied.
When we mentioned we were thinking of pulling him the principal didnt even ask why, basically gave us the impression of dont let the door hit you on the way out.
Terrible communication.
Hopefully they got their act together within the past 2 years.
