Our son is in his second year at Field and it has been an excellent fit for him. We are so pleased he is having such a positive middle school experience and likes going to school each day. His biggest complaint is doing homework, but it has never felt like an excessive amount.

He joined Field in 5th grade after homeschooling his whole life while we lived overseas. He struggled a bit with reading and writing, so we were concerned about how he would do in a school environment with higher expectations for independent work. We talked this over with the school administration and they told us that while they do not have specialists (speech, reading, etc.), what they do have are dedicated teachers and small class size. Truly this worked well for my son and he has thrived academically and socially. The faculty do very well helping the boys address conflicts and arguments and bullying has never been an issue for us. It seems like everyone I’ve talked to feels similarly.

The school has a lot of extracurricular options for kids who are into team sports and for those who are not. There is a lot of physical activity, group games, and fun options for the boys to choose from. My son (not into team sports as much) has done archery, basketball, disc golf, board games, stained glass, stringed instruments, newspaper, and several other things which he was able to choose from.

We give Field School five stars!

I have two Field School sons – one grad, and one current. While I have always loved the “feel” of Field School – its effort to foster independence, inquisitiveness, responsibility, civics, empathy, appreciation for the outdoors, minimal screens, and the list goes on and on… I did not fully appreciate HOW good of an academic and social education that the Field School boys are receiving until my oldest graduated and began high school. Even HE recognized the value of his education. I love that there is a local school that allows boys to mature and learn on their terms, and develops within them skills and confidence for the future. (and, by the way, SUCH a dedicated group of teachers and admins!!!)
