Sometimes convenience isn’t the best reason why you should move your kids to a school that is close to the sitters. A friend of mine had all her kids come to this school and was so happy she had no bad comments about it. I was so excited that my kids would go to a good school and would be able to walk home to their Grandparents house afterschool. Let me start with the drop off pick up situation; a mess and unorganized! Everyone looks lost and the crossing guards are too busy checking out their phones and chatting with each other, the kids across the street waiting patiently are piling up. I thought this was just because it was the first day of school but sadly, it wasn’t. Every single time I would pick them up there was a line in every direction of people trying to pick up their kids and not an easy flow out. It was very frustrating. Teachers, all but one; I’ll get to him in a min, are non friendly and do not communicate if their lives depended on it. My daughters 3rd grade teacher was so rude and grumpy at every interaction I had with her. She couldn’t “control” my daughter in class and would constantly email me that she wasn’t behaving in class. When I wouldn’t hear from her, I would email asking if my daughter had a good day and I wouldn’t get a response. I even asked her after the first few times of getting complaints about my daughter, why didn’t I hear from her when my daughter had good days and still no answer. Shocker, right? The best teacher there that should be at a WAY BETTER school is Mr. Lindholm. Wow, this teacher is super awesome! He loves his job you can tell! He was approachable, FRIENDLY, interested in each kid in his class and really wanted to help the kids learn. He really cared for my son and would constantly email me updates about the class and upcoming reports and assignments. He should definitely be at a school where he is appreciated for being an awesome teacher. Now, the front desk person is something else and wouldn’t offer any help in not allowing my kids to be checked out from school from someone NOT ON MY LIST of people who can check them out. She said I would need to tell that person they can’t check out my kids and I said there is a list of people WHO CAN and this person is not on my list. Why would they be allowed to leave? Is there something she can do to help me so that it wouldn’t happen again and she said no.

After 2 horrible years at Funny Farms, I pulled my kids w/o looking back and re-enrolled my kids at Kyrene School District where the teachers care and offer help. They are in constant communication with parents and offer reminders everyday of upcoming events. Never will I ever go back to any school in the GUSD. Kyrene by far the best and have the bar set high.

We had an amazing kindergarten year when my son first attended and we had high hopes 1st grade would be the same. Oh we’re we wrong!! There’s a horrible lack of communication, my son was involved in 4 physical altercations and each time we were never notified. The incident where he another student chocked him, he went straight to the principal and still my husband and I were not notified. After speaking with the principal, he told us he would follow up with us and that our son’s teacher would be in contact. We didn’t hear back from either of them.

Even worse, my son was a member of their running club and instead of sending him to club, the teacher told him there was no club that day and left my 6 year old out front with no on there to pick him up. Another mother contacted me and I immediately rushed over. When I got there no one was out front in the walker area. I emailed the principal and he asked for time to investigate, when he called me back he told me the teacher had said My son didn’t want to go to running club and let him walk out front. He encouraged me to talk with his teacher and that he would follow up. I spoke with her, not 5 minutes later, and she told me a completely different story. She basically blamed my son, said he ran off but in all honesty he should have been lined up for club and not been out front in the first place. Had that other mother not contacted me, it would have been at least a half an hour before I even knew something was wrong.

The principal never bothered to check back with me, and two days later my son was chocked, again no communication. When my husband called he was told, oh yeah someone should have called you. We then asked to set up a meeting between the teacher, principal and us and the principal asked what we’d like to discuss in the meeting. (Seriously!?!) It was at that point we both realized, there wasn’t anything they could say or do to make things better as they were clearly trying to downplay and dismiss our concerns. It’s totally and completely unacceptable and my confidence in that school dropped to zero.

This school was okay, Mr.Lindholm was the best teacher ever. He’s a great teacher and is the reason I’m in honors today. He’s also very funny too and is great with the students at the school. Mrs Warfield was also amazing, so sweet and caring. She was a great teacher and she really helped me out. This school was good I guess, but could be better. Lunch food was low-key nasty, I still ate it though. Ms Sherry was literally so sweet and was also kind to me and my friends during recess. She made small talk and was really nice too, she’s so kind.
