We attended a SEND session today with our 7yr old ASD boy, it was absolutely fab! So much for him to do, the freedom for him to just be himself was perfect. The team were very friendly and the pancakes and honey on the fire were a lovely touch. We all loved the session and will definitely be back. (With a towel and swimming things next time!) Great to have found a SEND session where they totally get our children’s needs!
I have been bringing my now four year old son to Flint and Steel Forest School Parent & Toddler sessions at Poole Farm for over a year. We have weathered all the seasons there now at least once each, and can honestly say it’s always been a really good session. Even if it’s so cold my toes freeze in my wellies!! They have a beautiful spot which you’d never guess was so close to the busy main road once you’re into the farm and beyond to the forest school space. The stream is lush and my son LOVES playing in it. The sessions are completely child led which I love, and there is always plenty there for the children to get themselves stuck into. Heather and Lizzie are such lovely people and really work hard to ensure everyone has a great time. Heather always cooks us up a treat and is great for anything you need to know, and Lizzie is always on hand to offer a craft idea, some wildlife knowledge or a helping hand with your little one. Milly recently joined the crew and is also really friendly and knowledgeable; we look forward to seeing more of her as time goes on. They are all always keen to listen to ideas and to improve what they are offering to people. It’s clear they are doing something they love and are passionate about. The setting is really relaxing and whilst the children always have plenty on hand to keep them busy (mud kitchen, swings, hammocks, stream, painting, crafting, books, toys, diggers, water play…the list goes on) it is also a really lovely space for the adults to be in as well. I’ve made some good friends there and there are always friendly, likeminded people who come along and are just really nice to chat to! Along with the mid-morning snack, tea, coffee and hot chocolate on tap and enough biscuits to keep you going through the morning, all in a tranquil and beautiful setting, what more could you ask?
The most wonderful of places! Supported our daughter’s personal growth and encouraged her to try new activities. She has gained much more independence and confidence. The staff are patient, caring and invested in allowing the kids to explore and express themselves. I wish I could have attended when I was a child.
I have been working with Flint and Steel for the past few months. I have observed and supported a range of sessions including children’s parties, home Ed group, holiday clubs and school groups. Heather and Lizzie are passionate and knowledgeable about what they do . They provide a fantastic forest school experience and enable children to explore, play, make friends and learn in the stunning surroundings at Poole Farm. If you haven’t been yet, go!
Our youngest attends Forest school here and always has the most amazing day. The team are exceptional and have developed a wonderful environment for young people to explore nature and the outdoors. A credit to their hard work.
