Here are some reasons FCA is a good fit for our daughter. Smaller student population which offers more opportunity for my child to participate in sports and extra curriculars. In a large school you would only make the team, get the role, hold an office- if you were the best of the best. In a smaller school you have more opportunities to actually develop those skills and try new things. A smaller school also offers more individual attention with studies. I feel like many of the teachers at Founders truly want to teach and actually care about the students. Of course, there are always a few bad apples but generally I think most fall into this category.
When thinking about classical education I was told, modern education teaches you what to think (indoctrination) and how to do (job skills). Classical education teaches you how to think (esp. through Latin and Greek) and what to do (virtue formation). I love that!!! We came from an international school that had an emphasis on teaching the students how to learn, not simply how to memorize information and the thought of putting our daughter back into the traditional American public school setting after 4 years of this way of learning wasnt ideal (we actually tried for 6th grade and were miserable).
Ive seen an improvement in communication from the school this year (new campus, new headmaster) which had been one of my biggest disappointments in general. I also appreciate the new headmasters desire to have a top notch classical school. We are well on our way!
