The first aspect you will notice about this school is the campus. The campus layout in the school has a two-story central building with most of the classes, the admin, and the media center. It also has lots of small buildings south of the main building. The campus can be somewhat difficult to navigate, but is still a fair layout to the school.
Next, you will learn about the traditions the school is unique. The uniform policy requires all boys with light blue collars, a tie, and khaki pants. Seems pretty average for an academically advanced school. Different colored ties makes the students easy to identify. The house system is okay, and has many ceremonies, competitions, and winners. This makes the school have a very competitive atmosphere and environment. Being an introvert, this did not really fit to my personality, but once I got older, I start to value all this pressure to succeed, no matter what house you get inducted into. I get to learn about leadership, teamwork, and how good it feels to win. Eighth grade PE made me value all those things.
Not only does the school put pressure on the boys physically, but academically. No matter your past grades or FSA Scores, your son will be put into advanced courses, like regular middle school courses but more work. Some teachers may give a lot of homework, especially in Math. Algebra 1 & Geometry were some of my most vigorous courses. However, these difficult classes makes you succeed. Your counselors and teachers want you to succeed, and determination is required for you to get an “A”! No class will be too easy for you. The school also offers after-school clubs, called enrichment. These clubs can either be very productive or just a social club, and very relaxing.
Throughout my experience, i have grown fond relationships with the teachers and staff at this school. I will say they really did benefit me through middle school and beyond. The principal is very conservative, and is a man of discipline and rules. The principal makes sure the boys are well-behaved and be role models, no matter what grade level you are in. He will make sure you will award you for good behavior and learn from your mistakes. The rest of administration is like that, but can go less on you. The cafeteria staff cares about their students, but depreciates as the longer you stay in Franklin. Food was good in sixth grade, but is just okay once you get to eighth grade.
The students in this school are behaved, although horse-playing can be common in this school. Note that the school is very close to the ghetto. You can make friends in this school, just be aware of social etiquette, and you will be fine. The school also makes contact with the girls school nearby. The principal teaches the boys about respect, manners, and stability, but what about the parts that make you interesting? The dances do not affect your son’s early love life whatsoever. Up to my experience, I have gotten some very strange crushes following my departure from Franklin.
In conclusion, It depends on the type of boy your son is if you want to choose this. If you want your son to succeed, and learn about positive traits and values. I hope this review helps you for your sixth grade choice!
