I’ve had the unique perspective of having begun my work at the Boys Program in the inception year of the Girls Program, located at the South Campus. It’s so inspiring to see the program inspire and empower young women for a lifetime of learning, service, and leadership. The balance of academic rigor, character education, and technical outdoor skills in a supportive split-gender environment is a magical intervention for the critical middle school age. When I observe classes at the Girls Program, I see raised hands, confident students, and the “steady hum of scholarly work.” And what’s the secret that makes this place so amazing? Rockstar teachers.
This place rocks! The field days are a great way to learn necessary life skills. The students and staff have a commitment to excellence in the field and in the classroom. An atmosphere of responsibility and high expectations leads to better outcomes for all the girls. The school allows the girls to show leadership and confidence in everything they do.
Amazing staff. I don’t know anyone else in the area that offers what they do: consistently excellent education, individualized mentoring, opportunities for community service, and experiential learning in greatest outdoor classroom of all – Western North Carolina.
