If you’re serious about college and want to be properly prepared for it, do not come here. This school is a joke and so is the administration. Many teachers care not about the well being of students but then again there are many who do. Due to being a couple blocks away from the ghetto, most kids here are ghetto and don’t care about the education; they treat this place like a daycare. Fights are daily and riots involving the CPD are not uncommon. This school is approximately 50% Black and 50% Hispanic. There were like 2 white people when I attended, so I hope that illustrates how “diverse” this school is. Average ACT is 14. They do offer AP courses, but very few. There are only a handful that go to a FOUR-YEAR institution and actually GRADUATE. Getting the picture? The neighborhood itself, when class is not in session, however, is decent. Yes there have been gang shootings and graffiti is present but is not domineering. I can walk around at 11 PM and not have to worry too much about getting robbed/mugged, but still look over my shoulder. Bottom line: take yourself elsewhere. Even Kelly’s better than this place.

Alfonso M: On the contrary, I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life. As a matter of fact, I’ve lived next to this school my whole life. So I am very well versed concerning this school’s ins and outs. Of course riots and fights can happen in any school. But to where its, daily, I repeat DAILY and happening like clockwork is where I see a problem. I know CPS sucks. I know urban schools get a bad rep. My review of two stars was not just for the violence, its for everything (academics, teachers, things not explicitly listed). Violence just sticks out at this school because its so bad. I have friends who attended selective schools in Chicago and obvi did not have same prob.

I also lowered my rating to 1 star to offset this school’s absurd 3.9 average. My real rating would be a 2.

This “school” has been in probation for about 18 years. If I had the chance to go back, I wouldn’t. More than a school, it’s currently more of a “back up” plan for students that can’t go anywhere else. What do I know right? I only spent 4 years in there and all the teachers I had are now gone. It might have been a great school at one point, but that doesn’t help now, does it?
This school is horrible. My daughter got into a fight just because she was minding her business and doing her work. If you are about education don’t go here.My daughter is getting a transfer today.
