This school suffered from rapid growth combined with dwindling seniority amongst their leadership and whisperings for communication. It has been 2 years and they still dont have a playground? I loved the proximity of this school to home and the methodology but I found that wasn’t right for my children. Moving into a new building without a central library and cafeteria, unfinished gym and disorganization felt like the administration had their priorities wrong. Not sure how they are spending the state money or the private money from the preschoolers, but it wasn’t on the finishing touches for the grounds. What kind of school doesn’t have a library! I had some excellent relationships with the individual teachers of my preschoolers class, but my first grader had a horrible experience.

I was torn about writing this review but my son has blossomed at the new school (private) and I feel that if other parents are feeling unsure about Geist Montessori they should be able to read both positive and negative experiences of others if they wish. My sons teacher hurt his confidence at a very fragile time in his development. He said “she told me I couldn’t go the restroom until I finished the work,” turns out he has bad vision, way to know your students. To each his own, I can move on.

We have three children that have attended GMA now for two years. Our children have attended Montessori schools since they were two so they are accustomed to the increased independence and autonomy this method provides. We appreciate that children are given a weekly work plan but have the discretion to work through the topic areas as they see fit. Our children are scoring above average on standardized tests which helps me feel confident that the children are still meeting state standards. Some reviewers have mentioned lack of a playground and this is actually common within Montessori schooling. We tried public schooling briefly in 2019 and have yet to return. I think our public schools are wonderful but they rely too heavily on technology for our taste. I prefer our children learn basic skills like writing, spelling, math, etc. using real materials and GMA encourages this!
It’s also a small school which has allowed our children to become well known and more than a number as I fear might have happened in a very large school.
