I would not send my child to any school with Sir Robert Dowling as a Trustee. At St George’s school in Edgbaston, my SEN son experienced the worst kind of discrimination from him (Chairman) and his daughter, Mrs Shaw (Deputy Head). They are very cold hearted individuals and put money before children’s needs.
My 11 year old son went to this school and next day asked me for PS20 I asked what for he said he wants to buy a vape because all the kids have them in school I went to the school and had a word with the head and he said c’mon bro it’s not as bad as cigarettes
This school is an overall good place, the staff are friendly and sociable. I recommend this school if your child is confident, if not – it’s still a good choice, however, make sure you check on them…
Came to Birmingham late after secondary school application was finished. Had to choose GDA as it seemed to be the best of the worst. My son wasn’t happy until mid year 9 when things have changed for the better. I think the problem with this school is the kids themselves who couldn’t be bothered to learn. They wasted the lesson times and mocked the teachers, engaged in fights but I could tell that the teachers were going the extra mile and putting great effort to help and support those who needed that support and were eager to learn. Especially in the final years when most help was needed to pass the GCSE exams. My son had his circle of good friends and did really well in his exams. I won’t deny that we sought the help of external private tution only in Maths and English in the last year so he could reach his maximal potential but all in all I really appreciate all the efforts put in by the staff and a special thank you to the headmaster Mr. Hamilton for his dedication to take the school to another level.
Bottom line, it wasn’t the best school but we don’t regret joining it after all.
