Attended and graduated George W. Wingate high school in 1968, having transferred from a segregated HS in Washington North Carolina (all NC high schools were segregated then) in 1966. I played basketball under coach Jack Kamena who encouraged me and helped me win a basketball scholarship after graduation. I had a wonderful,nurturing environment within which,to help me transition from a scared southern country boy with a deep southern accent, to a semi-confident “city boy” ,bound to attend and graduate college. I had the benefit of a great coach, great teachers and great teammates who were as highly motivated as I was and who were very kind and supportive of the “country guy” trying to fit in…
Very Great Experience, Went in there concerned because my girlfriend daughter did not come straight home from school. The school officers were nice and very helpful. Pointed me in the right direction and I got the information that I was seeking. I also signed the log in book so, that it was know that I was there at the school.
1972 graduate of Wingate. Good experience there, however, I now need a copy of my diploma and NOONE answers the phone. HORRIBLE! Do I really need to make a trip over there to get some information?!
