This school is honestly one of the best, it is top 50 in the country. The teachers here are really good and fun people who love to teach. The music scene is also really good, when I first picked up an instrument here I fell in love its something I didnt know I wanted and I think others can agree. The gym coach also always comes up with some and creative games for us to play. The math teachers are also amazing, even though math isnt my strong suit and I think others feel the same way, dont let it discourage you all the teachers here want you to succeed they have tutors for every subject here. Mr Merrill one of the Latin teachers is hands down the best teacher Ive ever had he made class so fun and exciting and really is amazing. I do feel like there are some cons here, mainly on pressure, this school forces you to try very hard to points where you become burnt out, however this school has amazingly mental health counselors. This school also pushes a lot to where you can feel stupid at times when you dont know the answer, however thats not the case, everyone has there ups ands and downs. The lunch choices are a little bland with only 4 options a day (salad, pizza, sandwich, and hot lunch) but other than the lackluster selection its good. This school also has a lot of clubs for everyone to feel liek they belong. The students here are pretty good, no bullying no nothing everyone is good to one another. Ive definitely made some good (and bad memories) here that I can always look back and laugh with my friends, since its a smaller school everyone knows each other and its like one big family. Thank you
This school’s communication between the staff/teachers is not good, and I could compare our principal to the current US president. The workload is also pretty large, and many students have to work on that night’s homework during their classes, otherwise they would be incredibly stressed. Sure, this school does set students up for college, but at what cost? The teachers are not always the best, and many students, myself included, have had bad experiences with them. Not many students have a very positive opinion of Dr. Hood, our schools principal, either. Some students’ only motivation to continue attending this school, especially the class of ’27 students, is one of the two latin teachers, Mr. Merrill. As a class of ’27 student myself, I highly agree with and share this motivation. In fact, the existence of Mr. Merrill adds an entire star to this review as he is one of the few good teachers at this school. He is someone who tries to look out for everybody, in case one of those people has no one else looking out for them. He is incredibly kind. Truthfully, the only reason I wrote this review was to tribute Merrill, because he 100% deserves it. I don’t think there is a single (sane) student who dislikes Mr. Merrill. He is like the father figure I never had. Also I think it’s really adorable when I say “hi” to him, and he responds with “Hullo!” and like a little smile. Not adorable in a weird way. Y’know, like, he’s just a little guy!!
A lot of people who rate this 1 star do so because they could not handle the difficult curriculum. Also, Andrew Burns below is a thief (Calculators and eBay). While difficult this school is designed to test you, and it does. It tests your academic abilities, but also your social abilities. Such a small school setting means everyone knows everyone and it follows that this school requires you to form social bonds and learn how to avoid alienating those who you will almost certainly rely on someday. This school has transformed me into a better individual and I encourage others to give it a try.
