We recently moved down there to Lake Mary from Maine. The over all transition into the school was pretty seamless.

I needed quite a bit of paperwork; however, that’s normal. When moving from out of state you need to get your child’s immunization records transferred to the state of Florida by going to the Department of Health. Go very early in the morning as it took us about 5 hours. The office opens at 8 a.m. and is by walk in only. We arrived at 7:30 a.m. and there was a line. You also might want to bring a lunch.

They tested my daughter’s reading ability and placed her into a language arts class that they felt appropriate. I did receive a call from my daughter’s prior school saying they never received a request for school records. After going to open house, I realized that her language arts class is below her abilities. Therefore, I need to contact the guidance councilor and have her schedule rearranged. I recommend making sure your child is in the right English class.

The school has various electives to pick from, grades are available online and the majority of the teachers seem to enjoy their job. Everyone is very professional and polite. The study body seems to like the school as well. Overall a great school so far; however, we’re only two months into the first semester.

I am totally discussed with the staff at Greenwood Lakes Middle! Starting with the principal, Ms. Abbott and Dean, Mr. Drucker. Information for parents that you might not know about, If your child is the victim in a really bad situation, you and your child will be inconvenienced. It is school policy for a child to be suspended for 10 days and cannot be allowed on school property or school functions but there is a loop hole. The school may allow the aggressor to return to school before the 10 days are up, for whatever, none founded reason, they decide. I also spoke with the executive director to the superintendent of schools, Ms. Dilenger, to no avail. My problem is that my child was attacked at this school during school hours and Greenwood Lakes Middle is not following the CODE OF CONDUCT! Why even have his document if as employees of Board of Education are not following the Rules they set forth?! I believe The staff and higher ups are just worried about bad reports against the school because that would mean that they don’t continue with an A+ rating! It’s all POLITICAL and it’s WRONG not to do anything when a child is in DANGER!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!
I don’t like GLMS. Correction, I HATE Greenwood Lakes! Terrible bathrooms, zero punishments to the kids that deserve it, and they act like it is perfectly fine. I try talking about what is going on but many administrators just blow it off as an ‘angsty teen’ trying to find their voice… What?! We are people too. All they talk about is about how to deal with bullying like it is the 1950s. No one just pushes a kid on the halls and calls them a loser, no, it is very different now. I tried telling teachers I was being picked on once at this school and guess what? That’s right, they said IGNORE them and brushed it off as if I was the problem. They don’t bring awareness to mental health which is stupid. I hate GLMS so much, don’t waste your time enrolling your kids here. I heard Markham is a really good school, check that school out.
