Update review: this school closed its doors to families and staff with less than 24 hours notice (they emailed late Sunday morning that the school would be closed for three months starting the next day). Communication with the regional team has been impossible and no one has responded to our constant attempts to get into the building to retrieve our children’s belongings or our attempt to receive a refund on our tuition deposit. Clearly, Guidepost and it’s parent company Higher Ground has no regard for families and even less respect for their teachers or staff. Please think twice before enrolling your child in any of their campuses.

Our family had our concerns about enrolling our daughter (2) in a newly opened school during a pandemic, but we are so glad we dId. Guidepost is amazing! The staff is truly committed to my daughter and her wellbeing. I am continually impressed by their compassion and commitment to Montessori education. In the short time my daughter has been at this school, she has shown an incredible amount of growth in her independence. Even more telling, my daughter is so excited to go to school in the morning- she can’t wait to get out the door and is so happy to tell me about all of her adventures when I pick her up in the evening.

As a parent, I love the level of communication Guidepost offers. My daughter’s teacher communicates with me daily through their app and always listens to my instructions and concerns. This is such a small thing, but I love that the staff always remembers to put my daughter’s hat and sunshirt on for outside play (it was hit or miss with her previous center). There is also consistency in classroom staff- my daughter is welcomed each morning by the same teacher and enjoys a stable cohort of friends. I also feel like her teacher (and all of the staff) truly know my daughter and appreciate her for the funny, inquisitive girl she is. And, her teacher is available via email if I have questions about implementing Montessori practices at home, which has been an amazing resource.

If you are looking for a nurturing, caring program that fosters independence and a genuine love of learning, Guidepost Tigard is it. We absolutely love this school.

Our family’s experience with the Guidepost Montessori program in Tigard was a journey from high hopes to profound disappointment. Initially thrilled, we chose this smaller, personalized setting for our son, who quickly grew to love his school environment and deeply bond with his guides. However, our satisfaction was abruptly cut short. We were blindsided by a sudden 3mo minimum closure announcement via email on a Sunday afternoon (4/7/24), leaving us and many other families scrambling to arrange alternative childcare with no prior warning or clear timeline on reopening.

The reason behind the closure added to our distress; it appears to stem partly from the school’s resistance to the instructors’ efforts to unionize, a pattern observed as the Lloyd Center location was shut down simultaneously for similar reasons. This situation speaks volumes about the organization’s management and priorities, leaving us to question the stability and integrity of their operations.

Our trust in this school and its wider network, Guidepost Montessori, has been irrevocably shattered. For those considering this program, I urge you to consult The Oregon Department of Learning and Care Database first. The violations listed are not only concerning but critical for any parent to review before entrusting their child’s care and education to this institution. The premiums they charge for this school do not seem to be reflected by the services provided compared to other schools in the area. The corporate leadership running Guidepost is obviously a train wreck, which has caused multiple locations to abruptly close for many months on end, while other locations continue to lose local leadership and strong guides. Seek care elsewhere!

Until a week ago, we would have given our experience at this campus 6 out of 5 stars. The Tigard Guides are incredible educators and childcare providers, and our two children have thrived under their care in classrooms from young toddler all the way into the children’s house preschool. But as other recent reviews can attest — recent reviews that knocked this suddenly from 5 stars to less than three — Guidepost Montessori suddenly and rashly closed this campus to the detriment of families and the Guides who worked with these children each day. In addition to safety and other concerns that many parents had no idea about until the closure led to a mass airing of grievances amongst families (and which have been recently raised by Guides), the administrative response and management of this closure has been appalling at best and illegal at worst. It seems evident that Guidepost Montessori does not have the resources (or if they do, they don’t have the desire) to appropriately support moments of regional and local change or adequately provide oversight for their campuses. It breaks my heart to write this review, because of how precious this school has been to our family for 2+ years. It came crashing down around us this week, and while we’ve found solace and community in fellow families and the furloughed Guides, we found neither from the administration of Guidepost Montessori.
